Here is a typical day at our place. This was monday, takes a lot of faith to be stacking firewood when it's 65 in February.

MMfrompa I may have asked before but what size is the tractor and what hp rating? How many hours do you have on it? Is there a reason you went with those tires? Would you buy another tractor like that or perhaps change to a different one?

Backwoods, My tractor is a Kubota L-3901, 38.5HP I believe. I absolutely love it. Those Tires are are an industrial tire, kind of a cross between narrow ag tire with aggressive bar tread and a turf tire. I like them because it doesn't rut up places and you still get pretty good traction. The Tractor has about 125 HRS on it so far. I don't think I would ever buy another brand tractor. As a matter of fact I doubt I will ever need another Tractor lol. I'm 50 now and it will probably outlast me lol

Thanks MMfrompa as that is the exact tractor I was looking at a week or so ago. Because I don't have to worry about rutting things up I still think we'll go with ag tires if possible. But, the industrial tires are a bit wider so perhaps they would be okay. I understand they are a bit tougher tire too.

Backwoods Savage I got same tire type on my 50 hp kubota.. everyone says you want the ag tire.. I do not.. my tires the r4 are wider.. I like wider tires in mud season and wet areas.. the float more than sink.. especially in front. my tractor stays in barn. as I do not like to have to walk or shovel a path farther than that to get to it.. plus with the amount of money they cost you try to take care of them. so close to my house and mowed is my lawn... I get enough ruts without that.. r4 are considered a construction tire.. I think heavier duty for what I use them for..

I don't think you'll be happy with the r4 tires in the woods, Dennis.
And you don't have grass to worry about, so I'd say go with the ag tire

glad you piped in TurboDiesel as you have seen Dennis land.. that's what everyone told me too.. but mine have been all through my and farmers woods and my 3 acres of swamp .... I brush hog during dry spells .... only been stuck 1 time and that was operator error! my good friend neighbor (farmer) has ag. tires on his and it tends to rut the trails up more IMO.. here ruts fill water gets muddied and make more mess... I brush hog the woods trails for him..

but I have never seen his land or soil types etc..

    I can see that happening.

Dennis' ground is very sandy soil. How do you think the R4's would work in sand?

my swamp is clay all rest is sand.. people argue about this all the time.. ag. tires are r1 they are narrower... self cleaning lugs and have best dig/traction.. if with heavy use of FEL.. the narrower ag tires can't lift as much ... side walls wear out.. everybody says well all the farmers have r1 ag tires.. true but most farmers up here are in fields not woods..

I chose r4 because of lift in FEL, wider tire less dig ruts more stay on top, and to help out my neighbors I occasionally go on pavement.

in mud I like wider tire vesus narrow.. think of your ATV I have never gotten stuck in woods only swamp when broke through top layer and dropped into 4 feet of wet mud clay!

Good question, About a 100 years ago I experimented with different seeds and combined several tree species DNA and created a bark free cherry lol, Just kidding. That Cherry in my ranger was from about a 30" standing dead cherry that was dead for several years. Most of the bark fell off when I dropped it, the rest fell off when I cut to length. I do measure everything and cut to 16" That helps with the neat stacks as well.

That was my next question. All those pieces are the same exact size. Not just length as the op explained. Is he running the rounds through one of those splitters that splits one round into 5 splits or using a spade ?
