Got out early since the basketball game wasnt til 2 and was curious about some 2 yr down ash, one was pretty propped, the other mostly in contact-I decided against my usual of hauling everything to get it out and just took the saws, cant hook and necessary accouterments-bucked up 2, have 2 larger down yet to do and spotted a good maple blow down so shoulder season wood for next year is covered-was home by noon for brunch
I'm just glad my ash was good no punkiness at all-the other 2 are bigger and I got maple everywhere throughout the farm...I estimate 2 cord from the 4 ash
Ash, thats all I cut these days. Some are beginning to get dangerous being dead standing for 2 or 3 years. The last big one I cut the top shattered like crystal when it hit the ground. The trunks have been fine but those tops are spooky.
Ralphie Boy I completely understand-its not that bad here and these I dropped 2yrs ago-I think EAB is about done and I hope the species survives-its great wood-I was down (not a complaint) to oak, hickory, locust, etc x 3yr old-I was running short on shoulder wood and now thats taken care of...I have a number of those to which you refer in areas I can't really access, they'll just have to hit the ground--- milleo others here are much more educated than I, and I'm certain they will update you shortly
It was 66° up in SE Wisconsin, breaking a record high from 1917 or so. It had to have been even warmer by you. Nice work!
Thanks gentleman-No Horkn we were at 66 as well yesterday, 61 today and mid to upper 70's for the coming week-our Easter lillies are in bloom??? Heard on local weather couple days ago along with all the high temp records we have set on multiple days, we have had 7.4" of snow for the year---Gonna try and go get that ash today but its raining currently-you guys have a blessed day
Keep at it Ashwatcher We're still tackling the ash here but lots of it coming down. Some I will definitely leave in the woods but we'll get all we can that is decent. When that is gone, we'll go back to cutting mostly maple and elm.
Thats 2 Polar trailer loads Thats about 2 1/2-I can usually fill it with 2 trips but had to go a lil lighter today per trip due to overnight rain Loaded and ready for the 7 mi trek home-I think I like cutting one day and hauling out the next, less crap to haul Supervisor approved! Hopefully split tomorrow after golf---71 and sunny forecasted...Hope all are well...

I'm glad I did, the wood is solid, some bark is coming off, much longer it would have gotten punky-as I said, I have 2 larger ones down and a ton of maple to clean up--and coming down the hill with the last load I spotted a huge beech in the bottom of a ravine (holler to most of us) I'm cyphering how to get that baby out! Finished up the 3 day ash attack-never as much wood as we hope but my ole truck cant haul much more when pulling the trailer-was a blissful 3 day weekend and got in 18 holes this morning---Supposed to be in 70's here til Saturday
Took longer cause a good deal of the bark came off, some needed help-wood has no punk so its a win-got to get those other 2 very soon, they are a little larger-as I said been down 2 yrs...M/M say 38%---Ash will be fine by fall
Thx Blazing, lots of planning and consulting ideas of others-built in 2010-height, positioning and expanded metal flooring make the breeze a near kiln, that plus our climate, likely similar/identical to yours---Where is Sutherland without my googling? And not a thing wrong with the rig in your avatar-I have enough railroad rail to do a couple more rail racks then I may set up some like that-Do you eventually cover come fall or move under shed?
It's definitely a thing to see my friend. Sutherland is above 45 minutes south of Richmond Va. That picture is old I top cover all my wood with tin now. Then it's off to the shed.
