OK, today is Tuesday after a Monday Federal Holiday. This means up to 3 days of checks being delivered to small business that might have just burned up at the Winthrop ME post office. If that happened, that would really be a huge hindrance to a small business seeing that you wont even know what incoming checks you didnt get for 2-5 weeks when doing collections calls. I wouldnt want to get our mail from there!!!

Everyone working in the building is shook up but fine. The wife said she was casing her mail and heard someone say something about smoke. She turned around and saw smoke, and one guy climbed up to lift a ceiling tile to see if he could see something. About that time she saw flames and told him to get down, She watched the flames walk across the ceiling in a matter of seconds, and the building filled with smoke immediately, and at that point everyone started bailing out. The smoke alarms never went off until everyone was out of the building. It doesn't appear by the damage that the building had sprinklers, which I find hard to believe. The place is only 7 years old. ATF and the State Fire Marshals office are feuding over who has jurisdiction over the investigation but I think ATF will prevail on that being a Federal building. This is going to be a royal pain for all the carriers involved. They're going to be working out of a post office 12 miles away.

Are they arguing over who to blame for smoke detectors and possibly sprinklers that didnt appear to work? The building inspector and fire dept are likely making sure their records are in shape.
At least they can still work-that's an upside.

Well, I'm just speculating here and don't know if the building had sprinklers or not, but like I said earlier, based on the damage it doesn't look like they did. Maybe they had an exemption? I don't know. The office I work in doesn't have them but it's not a new building. We house records that go back to the 1800's. We were in a sprinklered building and it either failed or froze and damaged a bunch of our records, so we were moved out.

She's not much of a drinker anymore. Gallons of soda though and a Red Bull.

I love the snow option on this site! It would be even cooler if it accumulated on the posts, eventually obscuring them. then you can click a plow truck to clean it up.
