There is a bit of leaf on the third round over from the right, the on e with a branch crotch. Looks like 3 narrow leafs, but leaves would fallen off the tree and have not grown back yet. Maybe dry one than haven't fallen?

beeches hold onto leaves thru Winter here.
Some land on snow and heat from the sun warms them up causing a depression in the snow with a beech leaf in the bottom of the depression.

If it is beech, beech is a pretty hard nice firewood .

All though it looks like beech it's not rotted down the middle which makes me wonder. Those trees usually have a rotted center when they get that big. At least in Michigan they do that before they even die.

Looks similar to beech but not dark enough. Also looks like muscle wood but I've never seen one that large. Not sure why but I could not get the forum software to enlarge the picture at all. The screen comes up but no picture. But then, the forum seems to be doing some strange things.
