Had today off so decided to head to camp last night. Needed some woods time with the dogs and saws. It's a friends place. He's had it probably 12 years now. 15 acres and there was a Jed clampet style cabin there when he bought it. Lot of good memories in that old shack but it burned down about 5 years ago. No one was ever caught but the thought is it was a couple meth heads who we did catch breaking in and stealing stuff about 6 months earlier. So started the build of the new shack, 4 years in the making now. It's been quite the project with everyone pitching in and working on it. Probably another year and it'll be 100%. Just snapped a few pics to show you guys. I had wanted to take a few more but phone died out in the 25 degree weather.

The Beaver! This little tractor is amazing. I don't know much about it other than I think ford made them for a very short time and they have quite the cult following. It came with the cabin!

And some of the wood I brought home. Left plenty there for him too, only uses wood stove around 10 times a winter. I thought it was white oak and it may be but the bark looked like no other whites in the immediate area. Maybe a different type of oak, or hickory? It's dense and heavy.

Looks like an awesome spot to relax and get your hoard on! Hope you all get it done within the year and enjoy it for many years to come.

Awesome place! Looks like a great place to spend some time. The loft is very cool. Did you guys design it on your own?

Awesome place!! Sounds like a team effort to get it built. Nice to have friends that are that close to do something like that together!

I like the cast iron house sitting on tip of the stove for adding humidification to the room.

It was bought plans and then we changed a few things. There's lots of custom work too, the owner is real meticulous and has great vision and knows what will look good. The loft is awesome, throw 5 or 6 air mattresses up there during hunting season and don't forget your ear and nose plugs!

We've all been close since about 16 years old, everyone is mid to late thirties now. Even though he's the owner and financed the project 100% we all feel like we had our part in it and I know he appreciates all the help.

He loves that tractor, not sure I can negotiate that one for ya. He also has a Deere 850 that he mows with but the beaver gets most of the work in the woods. It's small, diesel, 4wd and can pull a surprising amount of weight. Anyone farmiliar with them? Plus you gotta love the name!

I think I got some nutmeg hickory there. Bark looks like some I was just browsing on the web. Anyone?
Edit: doesn't look like nutmeg grows this far north.

Does he heat the cabin all winter long? What heat sources does he have? Does it have running water?

I like the barrel staves used in the railings - great rustic touch

It's only probably used 10-12 times in the winter, when we're all up there for hunting season. Gets a lot more use in the nicer weather by his family. Only heat is wood stove, I tried to talk him into putting it in the basement but he was set against it. Water will probably be the last thing, the water is pretty deep and they want quite a bit to drill the well.
