Anyone hit 100* difference this year? I made ~85* (living area) this year, would be pretty hard for me to hit 100* as my stove is sized to keep me very comfortable in our climate which does not get much below -10*f though I've seen -25* back in the mid 80's. If I measured the stove room I might be touching that 100* difference.
Most likely the greatest differential we've seen was ~88°.... 2 years ago. Had some OAT's last winter that would have challenged that, but I didn't run the stove as hard. This year? Not even close.
I'd bet I've hit that 100 F spread a few times this year. General high comfy temp indoors stove room is about 76-78 F, and even if it was -40 F, the stove room would still be north of 70 F
I will have to say no as the coldest temperature ever recorded hear was 20* and I aim for 72*. I can't even begin to imagine what -40* feels like. It got down to +50* two nights ago so I lit a fire to take the chill of. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
not yet this year... but I did came close outside air temp was -1 living room was 92.. but then opened living room door for a few minutes to bring in wood...
leoht ... your temps seems colder though... I have skied Jay Peak OAT was 40 to 50 below... and according to the website wind chill was Stupid cold aparently computer did not go that low ... but I swear the coldest I have ever been was camping outside ayers rock at night after a light rain... got to 36 degrees and I could not get warm.. the good news after you get to 10 or 20 below there is no humidity ... it's a dry cold..
Not this year but I have hit that 100 mark in previous years. It typically takes an outside temp of -20 or colder, and we just don't see that here too often.
LOL I have heard Americans use the term dry heat but dry cold that's new to me. I think I know what you mean tho as our worst feeling nights are when the fog roll's in. If the temps drop below freezing the fog dropped to the ground turning to a layer of frost and it actually feels a little better. Dry cold. I love it, I can't wait to drop that one on some mates on a frosty mourning. Bring on the winter! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Over the years we've had the 100 degree difference many times. The coldest I remember was one morning when I went to work it was -52 outside and we had 75 indoors. That would have been back in the 70's and yes, in God's country; Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Still, I about froze that day. I remember when I was near Iron Mountain (to the NE) and they reported it was -56 at Ralph. I was just a few miles south of there at the time in a very cold truck dressed similar to an Eskimo.
Canadian border VT. It does get cold out in the desert at night, and there is very little wood for a camp fire especially at popular camp sites like Ayers Rock. I prefer camping off the beaten track so I can have a good fire. River red gum fire on the Wimmera river near Dimboola Victoria. (The Little Desert) Supplied by my Stihl 084. That's the only time I get a 100 degree differential. 30* jeans at back of legs >130* jeans front of legs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
OK leoht just so you know.. Dry cold is kind of a northerners joke.. just means it's cold enough for no humidity.. I am about 50 kilometers south of Montreal.. been around world twice.. 3 people knew that wasnt in Canada... yeah I like off beaten better also.. but I was in Aussie so I had to climb it.. I think I been on that river .. had a mate that was from "the heart" of ballarat.. we went camping there...good times with some home made essence and crownies
Canadian boarder VT, I work in Ballarat and live 20 kilometres south. So you know what it's like here. How long did you spend in Aus? The Wimmera river starts in the mountains north of Beaufort 30 minutes west of ballarat and flows west nor west that pic was taken about 3 hours drive from Ballarat. umm about 12 months first time.. 9 months the second went back 2 or 3 more times for month visits before kids and mortgages.. I "adopted" my Aussie grand parents.. was traveling on off road motorcycle came across this couple in 70s with a caravan (tow behind camper to US) with a flat tire.. having a hard time jacking it in the sand.. helped them out.. they fed me.. offered me a drink .. rest is history.. no got to remember Kate and con (2 from ballarat last names ... beautiful farm country..
I can't even begin to imagine what -40* feels like. When its that cold out, your spit freezes before it lands.
yup, most windshield washer fluid freezes at 15 below.. unless you get good stuff.. funny to see all out of state plates at garages to get that fixed after a cold snap...
