Is it safe to say that the Stihls starting with 0 ending with an even # are pro saws? (028, 026 etc). Ms series having an even # in the middle would be a pro saw? (260, 440 etc). If these observations are incorrect can someone supply a list of Stihl pro saws. In the Husky brand are all saws with xp and xt suffix pro saws? I have a good friend that goes to auction sales frequently and tells me all the time about saws selling cheap. I'm not interested in homeowner saws so I want to give him an idea of what to bid on for me.
Yes you are correct. Husqvarna pro saws are designated xp. There are a few deserable models that dont have an xp in there model number like a 359 or 365 special, or 266se. All of these models are considered by most people to be pro model saws.
All modern xp's are "pro" saws. Husky uses xtorq in all classes of saws. As far as stihl goes the only resent one that doesn't fit from the pro side would be the ms650.
441, 461 are not homeowner saws, but pro saws. You really can't just say any odd numbered stihls are not pro saws.
Yep, a great firewood saw. My 029 super may not be a pro saw, it's what's called a "prosumer" saw at best. That said, it's on season 17 of use, and has never been rebuilt, not even the carb. Pull it and go. It's hard to argue with that kind of reliability.
they have an even # in the middle though "Ms series having an even # in the middle would be a pro saw? (260, 440 etc)."
I was responding to your comment re 441 and 461. I'm not trying to explain or take any position and prove a point, just looking for information. Thanks for your input.
The Stihl 045 doesn't fit the rule either. Not that anybody cares anymore as the 056 is far more desirable but..... 031 and 041 are also odd men out but they too are relatively low-value vintage gear. Looking at this from a resale standpoint, why be picky? It's no secret that some of Stihl's "homeowner" or farm saws are the best selling, both new and used. So what if you score a few 025's (MS250) and 029's (MS290)? Sell 'em off if ya hate 'em and go buy or wait for the one you want. And some of those "homeowner" saws are actually pretty stout performers and far more durable than your average wine glass. The XP designation is the safest bet for Husky pro saws. But it too is not exclusive. Passing on a 254, 353, 359, or say.... a 2100 just because it doesn't say XP on the sticker would be a damm shame. Also if it says Dolmar or Makita on it and it's going cheap, have him buy it and PM me will ya?
