Here is the OM: https://www.stihlusa.com/WebContent...-MS-290-310-390-Owners-Instruction-Manual.pdf It discusses 16"-20" bars. Never run one, so can't say which is most comfortable. I'd guess 59cc, muff mod, good tuning - it'd handle 20" quite well. Maybe even 24" slowly for the occasional big wood. But I'm not demanding....I go slowly with 20" bar on 53cc Husky 55 quite often.
Ming don't bog down or anything g with a 20 on it. Now my 029 on the other hand hates it. Sent from my SM-S906L using Tapatalk
It would run a 24 inch bar in softwoods, in hardwoods probly not gona impress anyone. But thats not important as long as it gets through the wood.
I understand the muffler mod gives you more power... my question if it is a stock oiler.. I would stay at 20 inch bar or less so your chain gets oil...
I've got a 310 stock. 3/8 .050 20" is all it wants or needs. A .325 may cut a Lil faster, but I still wouldn't go any bigger. Hell, 20 is as big as I go on my 361. Any bigger needed, gets a bigger saw.
If you have one job, it would run a 24"/25" as long as the chain was sharp. A skip tooth pattern chain would help a bit too. With the muff mod and a good tune, that motor should be making a little over 4 hp. But if you are looking to run a 24"+ on a regular basis, I'd be looking for a little better power head. The 036, MS361, MS362 are all much more capable of running a 24" on the regular.
Good call on the skip chain MasterMech I did that when I was without a big bore. 28 skip on a 361. Slow but got a ton of wood with that rig.
I ran a 24/25" skip on my 361 for years. It ran fine as long as you didnt dig in the dogs. It wasnt a super fast but got the job done. All i had for bigger wood. That 310 looks like a nice saw.
