IMG_3641.JPG IMG_3639.JPG looking for an Id on this. I want to say white oak.
This guy was broken off at the top. I dropped a couple weeks ago and brought half of it to the house. Went back this morning and finished putting it in rounds

I cannot say on the species but that does not look like white oak, I will say that.

Edit: after zooming on the bark it could have a chance.

I'll go back tomorrow and see if I can get a branch with leaves.
The wood looks like oak, but dark

I'd vote Chinquapin Oak - it's a white oak species

Judging by bark I would say post oak.

I've got a lot of white ash. And this tree was in a low spot. Not in the swamp but not too far from one

Just a joke M2theB ....I have friend that always says that when he cannot say for sure what it is. It was sort of a standing joke around here and on an old site a lot of us were on. Carry on.....:D

Wow that is some pretty wood. I'll bet that would make some beautiful boards, nice tight grain! :dex::D

It's not here yet. But it's knocking on the door.
I walked the property with a forester last fall and said it won't be long
The farmer up the road is harvesting all of his for saw logs and has been for the last 4 or 5 years.
He's not touching the swamp ash. Says it smells.
