Fun morning in the back woods

Headed out back to drop a few dead standing oak this morning. If you zoom in on the trees you can see the bark is off both of them.


Both are nice and dry but the bottom 5'


You can see how far away from the house I have to go.

Tripped over this one as I bucked up the second one. On the ground no bark dry as can be. That's like getting two for one in my book.

Headed to the stacks with the first load.

This will finish off this 20' pallet.

Nice oak. Even nicer to have no snow around here to impede activities.

I'm so sorry, but that's more difficult to spell, and I just didn't have the energy.

Vey nice! Love seeing the pictures. Stacks look like they're coming along nicely. Are you getting full yet? Is that topcover some lumber wrap maybe? Looks nice.

 

Fanatical I just finished splitting and sacking. That's three 20' stacks 2 1/2 cord each plus the stack we are using this season. We use about 2 1/2 cord per year so we are all set. I stack on 20' pallets that we get our plastic trim boards on. The top cover comes on the pallet to keep the plastic clean and dry.

The stack on the left is for 17-18 the new one on the right is 19-20

The stack on the left here is this years working stack. The one on the right is 18-19 . And the new 12'pallet in front near the barn is for the pool wood stove heater for this coming summer.

I took the saw for a walk this afternoon with no real target and came across a standing dead oak myself. Not as tall as yours, but a lovely find. Short of being a blow down that's been hovering 3' off the ground, that's my favorite. ( I love watching the root ball sit back in its hole).
Also found a swamp maple in the same condition. Again, not as big, and a little punky.
Finished the afternoon dropping a 50' swamp maple twin.
All three are cut and piled until I can get to them. I've got a few inches of snow with a quarter inch of ice on top. I'm certain I would get on top of that with the ATV and slide down the field into the tree line making an unplanned stop.

 

Nice stacks! Thanks for sharing. The new stack has to feel really good getting it all split and stacked in such short order.
