My landlord was a really awesome guy and let me borrow his John Deere 5120 with a 30ton splitfire log splitter last night. I had a could couple black Locust rounds that have been sitting for a while. And went to work. IMG_20170127_173627789.jpg IMG_20170127_173752611.jpg
Took a while to split it up with the halves weighing so much but got r done and had fun never used a log splitter before.

Oh yeah, once you use a hydraulic splitter, you'll wonder why you didn't get one before.

    Nice work!

That is about the only time I like splitting vertically. Lifting big heavy rounds and making sure they stay on the beam is a PITA. It's still way easier than splitting with a maul or axe though.

The log lift on that one is the saving grace.

If it wasn't for the log lift I never would of got that sucker up there. Took a while to get it all split up though found some knots inside that were a pain.

A splitter is nice to have for big pieces like that. That must have a strong log lift. I'm just curious if there is a pto pump for the splitter or just hooked straight up to the tractors hydraulics?

Straight to the hydraulics and ya the lifter is rated to 800lbs. Two way split which is nice.
