She makes a good point about the dust and sech.

I was wondering, is that a wooden box sitting next to that wood stove? Just appears it was a little close.

I can only speak for myself in that I was not trying to be mean or judgmental. I just find some of these you tube videos on wood burning to be some what humorous at times. Many of them I have watched, if the example put out there were followed by others could be down right dangerous. Fast forward this to the 4 minute mark and listen for awhile.

I too am sure they are nice folks and envy their life style in a way but folks need to be careful of the advice they put out there for the gullible. Some times even the almighty Wranglerstar has me shaking my head.

No, I think you were more than fair. It was some or the other posts I found objectionable. It's not that big of a deal. Like I said I watched one of her other videos and found her to be a really good person. I'm not sure how we would feel if people made commments about our wifes like that.

I use a washcloth to clean the top and front lip of the stove below the door. I sweep the bricks of the hearth and the floor in front of the stove almost every time I load. Failing to sweep the hearth in front of the insert means that the blower would suck in and expel a lot of dirt and dust. Would also reduce the life of the blower. The wood is brought into the stove room is carried in a recycling bin that is sealed from stuff dropping out of the bottom. The blower is turned off for the reload to avoid blowing debris around til the door is closed. Heating with wood is only a dirty prospect if you let it be so (I.E. Lazy). Leaving dirt and debris lying around allows it to be tracked around the rest of the house by feet and animals. Rather than ceding defeat to messy wood burning she could have identified solutions to making it a clean proposition.

Very true. If she did half as much cleaning as she does talking, her place would be spotless. She may very well be a nice person (seems so) but it doesn't change the fact she's kinda lazy, and talks herself out of it.

Actually, I would wonder how people would feel if they were the ones being commented about, including malicious comments, snide remarks, and innuendoes . Or being the brunt of some joke or dealing with bullies, instigators, and their simple minded followers known as lemmings. There are some I honestly believe would kick the crutches out from under a person using them or better yet, shove them down the stairs, just purely for entertainment. Really, I wonder how they would feel if they were on the receiving end.

All to often, people tend to not think before they speak.

I agree. But, did you or did you not accuse your neighbors of trying to poison you awhile back? That to me is a pretty strong accusation to put out for the entire world to read on the web. If that was just some good natured rib polking than so be it. This post was started in jest as a way to show how some folks make burning wood as a dirty miserable way of life. I dont find it that way myself but some might. It was just a random vid I came across and so "tag, she's it". Besides that, it brings up some controversy, discussions and criticism weather it be good or bad. With out different points of views on certain things in life then we truly are nothing but simple minded lemmings. If I am wrong in my beliefs than so be it. If any ones feelers were hurt by any thing I say than beg my pard but folks just need to get some hide on them when it comes to some things. Now if you will excuse me I have to go throw a bunch of dusty wood around my house so me and my wife can sit on our azes and then go snow shoein and complain about the whole thing on boobtube.

Actually I tend to enjoy your posts, videos, and point of view. My slight was in no way directed towards you, I can take a joke as well as the next person. I do have a sense of humor as well. I can also accept constructive criticism. Harsh comments and insults with no merit, I can't swallow. And of course everyone has an opinion as do I. As far as controversy, I do try to side step it as I have my beliefs. Is it bark side down or bark side up and so on. Discussions are one thing, malicious insults are yet another.

That said, my accusing my neighbor is not entirely without merit. However since I did not post the entire situation, I suppose I shouldn't expect more than I received. If you or anyone else actually get to know me which is unlikely at this point, you would find I don't cry wolf unless there is a wolf breaking down the door. As my attorney once said in a certain case of mine though I can't remember word for word, he said I never imagined things really were anywhere near what you described because people tend to exaggerate and sensationalize, yet in the end not only were they as bad, they were far worse that you described.

As far as that thread goes, I will say I was disappointed in many of the posts due to their offensive nature. I do have a thick hide (and thick skull at times) as well as a sense of humor and those comments were pushing the limit. I did try using my sense of humor in an attempt to diffuse a potentially volatile situation, but it proved to be futile so instead of responding I just stopped all together.

I'm sure I will remain the brunt of jokes for some time to come simply due to that thread, and so be it. It just demonstrates what I was trying to convey in my previous post.

Okay everyone, go ahead and pull this post apart, take things out of context, and let the dog pile begin!

My Mom would soak the rocks over night in a brine in the front closet. The next morning she'd rinse them and pat them dry before kneading in a dry rub of blue clay ( Boston Blue at Christmas ) and then set them on the stove for what seemed like for ever. Maybe 6 to 8 hours, depending if dad got a bonus or not for Christmas and therefore what size they were.
Anyway, it was always part of the rotation between chicken fried steak, meatloaf, Cheerios and nothing.
My wife's never got the hang of it so I haven't had it in a long time.
Cheerios hit the rotation twice as much now.
