This foggy view apparently was taken using a drone. It is the Mackinaw Bridge which crosses the Straits of Mackinaw and now connects the UP from the LP of MI. For those who aren't aware, it is basically a mile between the towers. It is amazing to cross this bridge. One time I was going south and had to stop almost dead center of the bridge. I got out of the truck and walked around. People looked at me like I was crazy (I was and am). At the time a large ore carrier was crossing directly below (you can see straight down in the 2 center lanes. What a sight. Of course the bridge usually seems calm but stop and you realize that thing is always shaking.

One of my favorite things, because I know within a few minutes I will be in the UP. Crossed that bridge many times in all kinds of weather. I actually suffer from a serious short bout of depression when i have to drive south across it going home. Hopefully in a few years I can call the UP my home !

It's fun in a semi, when the wind is gusty.

It's a fun walk on Labor Day.

Plus, from a truck seat you can see straight down through the steel grates without having to get out

I've had to kill a few hours before, waiting for things to calm down so high profile vehicles could cross.

In fact, a couple years ago we crossed about two hours before this storm. Which was okay, because we watched the storm from our little beach on Lake Huron. It was about ten miles to the north and an awesome, humbling sight.

I am always so conflicted crossing the Mighty Mac. Drive in the outside lane on the pavement and worry about going off the side or drive in the middle on the grates and look down at the water the whole time and have the grates grabbing my tires and swinging the car around. Classic Scylla and Charybdis situation. Usually, I just let the wife drive and I close my eyes and curl up like a baby. BTW, I saw on a TV show once, that they have designated drivers who will drive your car over the bridge for you if you can't take it. I'm not that bad, but it does get my heart rate up for sure.

I remember back in '89 when the girl in the Yugo got blown completely off the bridge and into the Strait. That was a horrific tragedy.

It's fun to drop a coin off it to the water!

The driver is probably still squatted in a corner somewhere, mumbling to himself, maybe drooling a bit.

Theres an old railroad bridge here in pk, thats like 200' high thats open to the public to walk across the hudson. Its like 5 mins away, maybe i should check that out some time lol.
Its not 3 miles maybe 1/2 mile.
The longer bridges are more south towards NYC

The Big Mac is the only way we have to send the trolls back home every Labor Day!

Yes, we use the militia also to keep the stragglers in order....

I have driven across the Mackinaw Bridge at least a dozen times. I was not aware of the walking across on Labor Day. Just added something new to the bucket list.

Seems like a good place to post my favorite acrophobia-inducing video, of Russian teenagers doing some ill-advised climbing at the Russky Island Bridge, without safety equipment.

Yeah, I have seen they are building a new one. No doubt badly needed.
