Hauling wood out, rather than on snow, now on mud. Crazy...but I'll take it.

Today I also learned they put the frost laws on the roads and I have never seen this happen in January. Normally it is mid-March before that happens here. But it no doubt is a good thing. However, there is still some frost in the ground here. Not sure how long that will last though.

    Wow, mud in January.
Rather have snow & frozen ground than mud.

    But
Would love some 30° days ,
Real winter here so far this year
reminds me of the winters back in the 80s
long stretches of zero degrees & colder

Almost 60 yesterday and sun. Today it's high 40's and kinda rainy. Crazy weather. Just went and grabbed a load from my friends house and stacked it in the rain. Time for a hot shower, a beer and football. Go Packers.

We would say they "posted" the roads (towns post signs on the back roads during mud season with weight limits, and the sign actually says "POSTED"). I've never heard of it being done this early in the season.

And around here, when you mention towns you are actually talking about a village or small city. Out your way towns actually refer to townships. I remember my first trip out east and we kept seeing these road signs that said we were entering some town. I'd look around and see trees but no town. But I soon learned what they meant. Seems they do that at least through NY. Not sure about PA.

Dennis, it seems strange hearing about how warm so many folks on FHC are finding the weather this year after the mildness of last year. I know in my region weve had two years of very mild winters leading up to this winter which has generally been consistently colder than normal but not record breaking. It almost seems to me that if the east is experiencing a cold winter we will be milder in the west and vise versa.

Yes, it's crazy warm here. We've had over 50° yesterday, and Milwaukee broke a record high temp today of 56°.

I hauled wood with my wheelbarrow in a t shirt and I was still sweating.

    Crazy

I thought of it, but the taps will dry out too early. We are forcasted to cool back down for February. Who knows.

    Typical January thaw!
I did get 100 miles on the sled Saturday. 11 inches of ice on the lakes.

Mud mud mud and more mud here. Warm temperatures, Beautiful blue skies with white fluffy clouds but mud abounds. Frustrating.

Yes, that blows my mind. I remember a couple years back many did that but not much around here. I can remember tapping once or twice in February when I was young and thought that was amazing and now this...

I shut down my outdoor furnace (HOSS) for the past two weeks. I have never shut down during the middle of a burning season. Going to fire it up tonight though and it looks like Ill keep running it till the end of the season.

We usually have some sort of January thaw but not usually quite like this, although it seems to be over.
I don't mind the warmer weather but I hope it doesn't impact local orchards with trees that require a certain amount of cold days.

I have not seen the signs up yet, but we are supposed to cool off again starting tomorrow. It is usually late March before the frost laws go on up here.

50 degrees yesterday and now they are calling for 5-10" of snow tonight. Driveway is soft and loose-hoping I don't have to plow-what a mess that will be on a gravel driveway!

I have seen it warm like this when I was a kid, then horrid for several years. Seems to be a cycle. I'll take this over a 3 week spell of below zero weather I have experienced in Jan. in prior years. Tonight., we going to get a nor'easter that is going to bring snow, sleet, ice and rain. Also very high winds.

January has certainly been a pretty mild one - been able to burn two fires a day to keep the house warm. Always happy to save wood and I've had a chance to get some cutting done with the lack of snow in the woods - no complaints here! Cheers!
