Another nice day today. Worked on a cherry tree that was next to yesterdays maples. Was not able to finish, however. The cherry was very dirty and dulled my chain despite removing the bark and cleaning off the dirt and mud as best I could. Still got about ten feet of trunk to work on another day.
I look forward to it all week long, Dennis. A weekend of cutting recharges my batteries and gets me through the week.
Man those are some good piles of wood. Looks like the cherry was dead too. How long was it on the ground?
I find that working hard in the woods is like meditation and helps me clear my head. We get snowed in for many months a year and the back roads arent accessible. I guess one could us a sled but there isnt much point in our area so wood gathering only happens during the non snow season. When snow isnt on the ground I seem to go out almost weekly and it does get a bit tiring but I miss the routine when the snow sets in. I havent fired up the chainsaw since November
We broke a record high today. 56 in Milwaukee, although that was in the city, and not here, a county to the north. Still though, that's crazy. I was wheelbarrowing wood to the house from my stacks in a t shirt and jeans today.
Wow. I guess on the upside you are able to get ahead of the game on processing at the same time cutting back on consumption. There is often a silver lining eh? Next winter might be a bear and you will be more ready than you all ready are!
I think all of them came down in a windstorm about three years ago. Little bit of punk on the outside of some of the pieces, but not all if them. Some of them were completely solid.
I was bringing some wood down to the house with my wheelbarrow and was leaving small ruts in the lawn. Top inch is thawed but it is still frozen down deeper. If it freezes overnight I will finish filling my wood boxes in the house in the morning before more rain and snow move in.
Yeah, that was like here with the mud. It was just the top layer in certain areas, but I had to fill in a few ruts from the wheelbarrow. The weather channel says it might get down to 32 tonight. For us winter temps arrive Wednesday it appears.
