The weather in upstate NY has been very mild all week with temps reaching 50 today. The extended forecast does not show anything that is going to drop the temps to much either...crazy but I'll take it. On a even better note. My wife called me on Thursday when I was at work with some great news. She told me that a tree service knocked on our door and asked if we wanted the wood from a removal a few houses down. Oak, maple and cherry!!! And they would drop it on the lawn!!! I said "You told them yes right?" Anyway I came home and this is what they left! I was like a kid on Christmas!
I've got to call and ask the tree services for their cut downs. In your area they come asking? I gotta move. Looks like a nice mix of fairly clean wood. Enjoy bucking, splitting, and stacking. KaptJaq
This is the first time they came knocking at my door so it doesn't happen often. But I have gotten 2 other loads from just stopping and asking what were they doing with the wood? Can you drop it off? Both times they were happy to do it.
Nice. Most tree services here chip up their felled trees. Merry Christmas to you! Sent from my XT1030 using Tapatalk
Assuming they saw your wood pile and thought it would be great to unload it here, thats cool man. Great to have people ask if they can give you firewood.
Nice score! They seem to get rid of wood down your way very easily, must not resell or be too many burners. I was in castleton on Hudson for work for 4 months in 2014 and they were clearing land by where I was and just chipping everything, big trees too. I so wanted to ask to load up on fridays when I was leaving but was really busy and I'm not sure the gas mileage back to Buffalo would be all that great.
Castleton is about 15 minutes from me. There is a few burners around there but not compared to some areas. If you go 15-20 miles east of me you see every house has a wood pile. The houses that burn usually have enough land to take the wood off of there property and not pay for it. But there is a lot of firewood competition/ads around and I think most tree services are looking for the easiest way not the way to make the most money. I'm sure that's what happened. They probably try to do it at every job they have. They got paid for the removal and that was the easiest way to get rid of it.
Man, if that's all you gotta do to get tree service to drop logs off, I'm gonna put a few stacks in the front yard! They can't see the backyard from the street. Maybe I'll put a sign up sayin' "Drop wood here!"
That's great Kyle. Some nice wood there. I hear you about the weather. They forecast for us 8 straight days of 40 degrees or more that was supposed to start last Monday. But, we hit 40 even on Thursday and then yesterday hit 52. Now they keep saying 40's but lower then 30's toward the end of the week, but we'll see.
Oak"...& ... Maple ....&...Cherry Oh My, Great score Take your wife to diner (After dark of course, have fun with the saw til then)
Have to look you up the next time we go to Chatham. We lived in North Greenbush back in the mid '80's when I worked at Albany Airport. We get up there a couple times a year. Nice load, I'm surprised a tree service there is giving wood away. My father-in-law has a tree service in Columbia County and he keeps everything. What he doesn't mill or firewood gets tossed in a huge tub chippet and turned into mulch. He's about to quit after almost 50 years in the business. He has offered to give me his mill but I'd have to build some sort of building for it then figure out how to use it!
Wind damaged trees old or dangerous and council won't let you have them . Private company's take the long good lengths but are happy if you take the rest . Beggars can't be choosers
That's awesome man! Send me a pm when your up here and maybe we can get together! Where did you live in north Greenbush? I live right off winter street ext.
It took me a while but I remembered! It was Blooming Grove Drive off Rt. 4. Back in 84 there weren't all the businesses along 4. But there were a couple of places that had great clam rolls! I think they are still there.
Nice that's right around the corner. We still have a couple places up the road "Off shore pier" and Gene's fish fry that have been around since the 80's and are still going strong. From North Greenbush to Rabbit Hash that's great. Did you stop anywhere else on the way? Hopefully they make this a habit! I would have it made.
I moved all the wood to the processing area yesterday and today. I am thinking around 2 cord now. 7 trips with the pickup and 1 with the trailer.
