Had a little free time on my hands this evening to get kindling and firestarter squared away for awhile. Found some super dry cedar so the poplar and mimosa will have to wait until another day. Love the super cedars but this was free.

I love using standing dead cedar as kindling. It's on my list to do this weekend, actually. I found a little stand of 4-5 small dead cedars that will become splinters in short time. I do buy a big box of Fatwood to use when I don't have anything else in the house. A .375 cu.ft. box costs maybe $20 and lasts at least 2 seasons. Also, the smell of sappy pine and cedar make the house smell goooood!

Nice looking pile of cedar there. I have an OWB now so kindling isn't much of a concern.... the scrap that falls around the splitter works good and it's a good use for the fallen twigs and small limbs from my yard trees.

That's an impressive hoard of premium kindling! Did you use a hatchet to split all that?

Yep several big white oaks around the yard. Actually all over the property.
