Hey all, I have CAD....slightly cooled off now.....For disclosure, I'm a Dolmar guy. I like most people I know went looking for a Stihl many years ago. That was what I knew about saws. Anyways, the Stihl dealers or the salesmen I guess were like .."yeah buy this, it's the only thing that's good and you're stupid to look at a Husky.....". So I went home and did a little research and came up with some Dolmar info. Liked what I heard, and being a fan of both quality and the underdog, found a Ps-5100s and never looked back. A couple years ago Found an estate auction sale for a brand new never fuelled 7310. What a saw. My old man who doesn't care about saws at all, took it to the Dolmar saw shop for a setup and bar as he lived closer. This good old boy was a farmer who ran a beef farm and worked on Dolmars and Jonsereds at night. My dad called me and said, "you should hear this saw.....it ....is....awesome!" I took it that it had to be fantastic. It was a pleasure to use, and it does sound nasty at idle as well! Then I was looking all over for a 6100. Couldn't find one in Ontario. It seemed like every Dolmar dealer just dried up or closed up, or weren't selling any more until Makita/Dolmar figured out colours and names.....I went to look At a Husky 390xp for my Lewis Winch. (These are awesome things, I will make a post on it a some point). It turns out the ad was from a guy. Who ran a saw shop. Told him I was a Dolmar guy, and he said he was a dealer. He said he only had one left...a 6100! So I took both the 6100 and the 390. That my friends is two chainsaw good day. Never mentioned it to the wife! Anyways, just before Christmas I came across an ad on Kijiji, that had a 7310 for sale. I have been looking for a 7900/10 just so I can say I have one really, the 7310 is more than enough I think for what I'm cutting. Anyways, I bought both a 7310 and a 6100 off this fella. And got a good deal. He was going all Husky and was getting rid of them....Couldn't pass them up.... They were in good shape, the 6100 was not even broken in yet....it did have a cracked clutch cover, so I replaced that and put a new air filter in the 7310. They start and run great.....it was at this point I realized I had a problem......
I used to be a stihl guy too.... I do have one older 24 super with a 026 top end on it, but it just sit on the bench these days. I have a ps421, a couple 5105's and a 6421 in makita blue.... all great saws. I'm sitting on a 7910 piston and cyl kit that needs to go into the 6421 or I need to find another 64cc dolkita to put it in.... not sure how its gonna happen but the 7900/10 will be spit'n chips before summer.
That 6100 is such a great saw. Dolmar builds their saws just for my specifications. Lol not really but not muck on either of mine is would change.
So, what was the good deal on the 7310? There's a high chance my next saw will be a dolkita. My stihls have been very very good to me, but new ones are $$$.
Love my 5105H. Little heavier than my 50cc Jonsered, but it runs stronger and has heated grips. Sent from my Z832 using Tapatalk
I've rethought my perceived need of heated handles on a saw. Yes, I do most of my cutting in winter, but I find that I'm active enough while cutting that my hands stay warm even with thin gloves on. I tested that down to 15° this year, with thin non insulated gloves. I can add heated grips on my ATV for a lot less $ and that would keep my hands warm when they actually get cold. That's while actually driving the ATV. Plus I can warm my hands up at any time with heated grips on the ATV.
Heated grips aren't a need, but now that I have used one with them...........I will look for heated models if any of my other saws need replaced.
