NASCAR engine is 358 cu in. High reving, high compression. Nothing like the "350" in the old Chevy haha. Bill Elliot speed record 205???! Im pretty sure its 212.8mph at Talledaga in 1987. Also set track record at Daytona same year, around 210? (Memory fuzzy on that one) Restrictive plates went into effect the next year.
Alabama isn't Florida Keeping it Nascar related I had to fire the stove up after we got back from the race last spring - cold and wet weekend, even my buddy from upstate NY was ready to get inside and warm up after that crappy day. I think it was colder for the Nationwide race on that Saturday, I braved it for a while and got the heck out - all this in early May It's snowing right now - hasn't broke 35 all day. Winters are usually more moderate than this one with 45-50's during the day but the lows are still mid 20's - mid 30's overnight normally.....unless I wanted to pay for propain or live in a 50F house then why yes it is cold enough for a heater Palmer is close to Anchorage right? Pretty sure we've been colder than Anchorage multiple times this year(the weathermen like to point that out). January 8th I had a morning low of -4F, but I think it feels colder with the dampness and wind today
You can't beat watching the cars thunder by in person but the travel in/out is the distraction Bringing your own cooler is the only thing keeping the spectators coming - if they shut that down its over. I only have a few beers and let my neighbor get tanked so he can relieve is failing prostate in the stands I save the real drinking for when I get home
Anchorage is roughly 45 miles south, though at times seems like its a state over since the weather can be very different. I know everyone thinks Alaska is cold, but keep in mind its a HUGE state. I've seen some days have nearly a 100* temp difference between the high and low temp in the state.
Lost interest when they stopped using actual production car body panels. The new cars only remotely resemble cars you can buy.
They are different between all manufacturers except the deck lid - but not stock skins. It would be near impossible to keep the safety margins that they have built into the cars with a stock shape and construction of a unibody. Toyota and for that matter Ford I don't believe even produce a 2 door version of the Camry or Fusion, and I still haven't seen an "SS" in any ads yet, maybe a version of the redesigned impala but no car named SS
