Hoping I can get some help with choosing an electric motor for a used Super Split I bought with a gas motor on it. I'd like to convert it to electric 1.5 hp. My BIL has a salvage yard and I am thinking I will have access to some used electric motors. Are there any specific things I need to look for besides the hp? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Did you try to contact the guys at Super Split? Looks like you can call or email them with questions. Contact SuperSplitter Looks like they give the option of either a 1.0 or 1.5 HP engine with a new purchase and can run on either 110 or 220v. The 1.0 is on the 75 lbs flyweight machine and the 1.5 is on the 90 lbs machine.

I think k you need to keep the safeties in mind if converting,
    IE; motor overload, stall, etc...

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I emailed Connor and asked about the motor and he provided me enough info to locate a motor at a substantial savings.

Good to hear. I stopped by their shop a few years ago. Small shop. Nice people. We will need to see that thing up and running when you get it working!!

I appreciate your focus on safety. I had a previous electric Supper Splitter and loved it. I made a bad decision to sell it and a couple years later found this used one and the price was right. I wasn't sure how I would feel about having a gas engine and decided to give it a go. Well, I don't care for the noise, starting in cold weather, fumes, etc.... So, all the parts are on their way.

If you have the option to run it on 240V power, do it. Especially if you will be some distance away from the receptacle. Far less power loss to the extension cord and keeps your homes power system balanced with it running.
