that some people have with creosote, smoke, difficulty burning, etc. I just saw this gem on Craigslist: "Seasoned firewood.. most split this morning, almost all oak, has been on ground so bark and outer layer is off. $40 a truckload.. have about 2 truckloads worth."
Jeesh, didn't you know trees start "seasoning" as soon as they're cut down? Where ya' been? Under a split of Oak?
Well yeah, save others from possibly burning their house down! For that price just stack it and let it dry. Walla, piece of mind you saved a few lives from disaster and got 2/3 cord of wood for 80 bucks! Can't beat that.
that's exactly what was thinking Sconnie Burner ... I do not have many super good splits in the stacks and almost no oak...
I just don't see the issue here, this nice gentleman has some oak that he split this morning and then sprinkled it with salt and pepper.
I shoulda' taken a pic of the Oak fire I had earlier. Dead/down/barkless Oak, that's been split/stacked for at least 2 years...........sizzling out the end of a split only about 3" on a side. It wasn't the only one sizzling either.
I agree with everyone it's a good deal! Around my area a truckload is 100-125 bucks. Of course as long as I'm able I'll css my own.
$40 a truck load? You can bet it is just thrown in. Be that as it is, it sounds like a good deal for oak. But I would go one further and ask him how much less does he charge for a truckload of unseasoned oak and get the real deal!!!
Well, since he doesn't know what seasoned looks like, maybe he doesn't know what a truckload looks like. Maybe show up with this? Offer him $50, to even things out a little.
I accidentally put some oak like that in the fire during the snow we had a couple weeks back. As soon as I saw the moisture I said some magic words; too late to take out as it was attempting to burn on the drier parts so I added some of the dry poplar and got the fire burning hot enough to take care of it.
I have a feeling that most of the firewood being sold here is just piled out in the open, to soak up the rain and be covered by snow. The reason I was considering buying was to stack and cover and get a faster start on my firewood if the price was good enough.
Thaz right-As long as not punky, turn lemons into lemonade...poor souls, they know not what they do...for 40, its a steal though and may save a house too
Wanna hear magic words? Just wait until you put a piece in that catches on fire, you continue loading, and finally then you figure out the door won't close so you HAVE to take it out while flaming, and do the jog of shame thru the house to toss it outside the back door. (Come to think of it.....this may warrant it's own thread)
When they advertise here they showcase their huge mountains of firewood in every ad. My pile is bigger than my competitor's - and bigger is better - call now !!!!
does that seem backwards to anyone else?... product within species is same... why does having more of it make yours better? I guess I would advertise almost the opposite.... our cust. service and prices are so good.. we keep running out... we will get more... but you might have to wait a week for delivery so ya better call now!
