    Yep.

I've been thinking about how we did that muffler. We may have just blocked it off with a plate, rather than a screen.

It would have to be a plate? A screen and no deflector would definitely discolor the plastic ? Or am I misunderstanding what you said ?

Yeah, What I meant was I may have left the deflector, just slid a steel plate in to block it, instead of having a screen.

Could the pipe that goes to the original (old ) exit port be pinched off ?
Or would it cause some warping on the muffler.
    Cut & then pinched maybe.
Do the non cat mufflers have less stuff in there ?

Would keep some of the original look that way.
    Save some work too.

No baffles? , you mod it some?

I put one on the 359,
Guess I need to pull it & take a look.

Not totally comfortable cutting holes in it yet.
I'm not a welder, so working on that part before proceeding ?

May mod the cat one I took off.

Non cat mufflers have less stuff, there is no cat to go through. The earthquake ones I replaced just had a baffel in them. But even without a barrel just an empty can like the 357 apperntly has can still benefit from a larger outlet hole to allow the exhaust out faster. I'm not a welder either and still have modded 4 mufflers and seen gains.

The 2 earthquakes that I have replaced cat mufflers with regular mufflers and then modded those cut 33-50% faster in the cut on teat logs after the mods. Just hack kiddos no welding.

And now that I read it , I have no idea what "just hack kiddos" was suppose to be? I think I was trying to say something like I am just a hack here...no welding??

I do and can weld, just not paper thin mufflers with my cheapo Harbor freight flux core welder!

    I use a Bernzomatic jeweler's torch. That's hooked up to a larger O2 bottle with a regulator.

It has a very fine, pin point flame.

Very nice Randy.....but for imbeciles like me, the 288 deflector

Just go with a 288 deflector and screen. Drill and dremel an oblong hole in the side. Attach deflector and screen with little self tappers. Retune and away you go.

Haven't had the chance to run it to do a tuning.
Near zero temps, thinking it might be better to wait for
    Warmer temps.

Not only for the saw, but for me too
Neither operate at peak performance at these temperatures :)

That won't work on a 359 with a cat muffler... the hole has to be in the rear part of the muffler (behind the catalyst), and that doesn't leave enough room for the deflector to fit in there. :(
