My wife and daughter went out yesterday morning shopping for a bridesmaid and flower girl dress for an upcoming wedding this summer. I saw a few hours of free time so I took advantage and went to pick up some more wood. My father in law and his brother in law brought it down while I was at work a couple weeks ago, and then when I showed up to do the rest he had it bucked and ready to go for me already! All I had to do was split and haul it off. This tree had broken in half a couple years before and was actually in better shape than we thought it was. Some of it put up a bit of a fight but the splitting wasn't bad, minus a little game of bouncy wedge. A game of bouncy wedge usually doesn't bother me, but on one occasion the wedge flew out and landed on the edge of my x27 which didn't make me excessively happy. Anyhow, it was a great afternoon to be out getting some excersize and getting things done at the same time! And in a couple years this will be a good addition to someone's wood supply.
That X-27 looks a bit rough to me. I don't recall having said it before so welcome to FHC. It looks like you will fit right in.
Like Oldman47 said! Welcome to the crew Boogeyman! That picture of the wood and the axe showing the chips in it looks real nice. What kind of wood is that?
Welcome Boogeyman You're gonna like it here, I guarantee it! Love the avatar, we also love dogs and beer around here and you appear well on your way in establishing your addiction-Lil grinding will take care of that X27, be good as new.... Again, welcome and nice to meet ya
Welcome. Looks like some silver maple to me...but I could be wrong. The x27 has pretty soft steel, which isn't great on one hand, but on the other it makes sharpening or re-profiling easier. I would just round off that corner, rather than grinding it all back.
