So I went out late this morning to start on this pile, which is mostly ash. Spent about 45 minutes out there and made that small pile of rounds. It's 14 degrees and windy and everything is frozen together. Jammed the tip into the dirt by accident. Luckily this is right behind the house, but I realized one thing. I like cutting up bigger trees, that I just dropped. This ash is nice because I have maybe 4 logs in there that I will need to split. This stuff is a quick cut and done till I stack or burn. I just kept drooling over some bigger trees that are still standing . Plan for the week is to get some beech and maple down and blocked, start a stack of blocks I need to split and wreck this pile. Based on today's outing, gotta pick up the pace. IMG_4159.JPG IMG_4160.JPG

Nothing wrong with cutting that size wood and as you stated, many won't even need splitting which saves some work. Terrible though that you tried to cut the dirt. Frozen I'm sure it cuts very well.  :rofl:

We are down to a lot of wood that size with all our dead ash as I've cut up all the bigger trees (that is what we started working on first. Made sense to me to do it that way). I really don't mind working with the smaller trees especially because I don't mind burning the smaller rounds and for splitting, many of them need to be split only once or twice and you're done so it is quick work.

Now about this cold... I'm already ready for Spring.

Now that there is one nice pile of "inventory" to have available to work on.

    Well done!

Indeed! I prefer to cut at the house when I can even if I'm cutting logs on the trailer.

I quickly piled it just so I don't lose it in the snow. I plan to move everything onto pallets this week. I hate stacking though......

Ah but one needs to do something to make the stacking more interesting. After all, it is something we all have to do yearly so make it more interesting and you won't dislike it so much. It's actually not a bad thing to do and gives you different exercise which is good for the body.
