Heard a bump in the night last week during a rain/wind storm.

About 60 yards behind the house.

Far enough to be safe for the house and close enough for easy retrieval. Sounds like a winner to me.

It is always a good thing when Mother Nature drops trees for you without any property damage:banana::banana:

Nice felling, Mother Nature!! Nope - no snow here in Mass. We've been on the warm side of the last few storms. I'm ok with that, as I can still gather wood to have to CSS over the next few months. Doesn't seem right to empty a wood rack, without being able to fill it back up!

Red Oak but it will wait a few days or weeks as I have many of these Dead Red Oaks to take down on the way to the blow down.

Wish I had a few FHC members in the area that needed wood.

Yeah, it would be nice if we were closer as I could use some nice red oak. We do have some oak here but not a lot. Funny too because right across a couple of our fence lines there are lots and lots of nice red and white oak. We have a few but most are not very large and I hate to cut any because if we cut then no acorns to plant new trees.

Minimal top clean up and a nice straight "gravy" log! Perfect.

Depends on which end of Mass you're in. I've still got a blanket here despite the rain yesterday. Added a half inch to it tonight. I'm in the "here there be dragons" end. :)

Nice looking tree! Good size and straight as an arrow. Thanks, wind!

You know you got it good or you are a REAL wood snob if you have to think twice about going after this oak. I love the no bark no branches of my dead standing oak. That and this oak will take 3 years to season. So I guess that makes me a short season time snob also.:picard:

Did Scotty Overkill injure his eye or is he doing his Popeye imitation?
