That's really low!! I think just to have power on is like $20 for us. we use to have a $115 power bill a month just me n wife. that was no heat or AC, now it's like $155 a month. we have a 3 year old also and mom is at home all day now, but power also goes up like every 2nd year. our power is about 14.5 cents a kwhr

Negative. It's been slowly climbing since install. I rarely have lights on. Usually just a fan or 2, TV, a light or 2 occasionally, well pump, clothes dryer, furnace blower when I'm away, and minutia. I'm almost as "lightly" "on the grid" as most wish they could be.

My gas and electric bills charge me more for the "privilege" of being connected to them vs. the product I'm consuming from them!!!

Our meter sits on the utility pole some 40' to 50' from the house . Although it is now digital , they still have to come out and read it but rather than read it , they can drive up to withing 20' or so , and scan it . So it is putting out some sort of signal , but it does have limited range . With Our new home in 2005 , We installed a Quadri fire fireplace , thus the first winter after that , power bill was different than previous winter . They Called about it , but then when they were Reminded about the new house , they checked their records and were like " Duh " . Lady was pretty funny when she looked it up . Although new House is nearly twice as big as old moble home , Power bill is less . Dual pane windows , 2" x 6" walls , 2" x 8" floors . Course driving Semi for 5 days a week , I only get to sleep in it 1 or 2 nights :emb:

We don't have electric heat but we haven't burned LP in 8 years. It took over 5 years to run out our LP tank just using our gas stove.

For years they wanted to charge us a no usage fee ($120 a yr) and $19 a month to use thier tank). For 2 years they tried to come pick it up but it was early Spring or late Fall and was very wet. I wasn't going to let them rut my yard up. For over a year and a half now? Nothing. . No calls. No letters... No fees (which we didn't pay them when they wanted then because at the time it still had fuel that we bought and we're still using. Even if it was years before).

We have been LP free for 8 years (9 this February when we got our 1st pellet stove). Haven't burned any and don't plan on it. If we don't burn Wood or pellets? This is a cold house. But we sit here tonight at 72°.

HHO company sent another email today, do you need oil ?. Last time I filled up was ...........well I'am not sure, but it was under 2$ over a year ago. I have 2 x 275 tanks and have used less than 1/2 of a tank in over a year.

Electric bill is $48 a month ( budget plan ). Biggest user was the dryer, now I dry with wood in front of the fire.

My propane company charges me a "low usage fee" of between $75 and $125 depending on how much gas I DON'T USE in their fiscal year. I only use the gas to heat water and run the furnace for a week when we go away at Christmas.

Imagine your local grocery store charging you an extra fee because you don't purchase enough milk!

I'm looking to switch companies come spring.

Why don't all you people tell them to come get their tank and just buy a 30 or 59 gallon tank, those that use so little, or its it one of those things where they won't fill your tank?

My brother has two of those "little" torpedo looking tanks, fills them twice a year or so. He had trouble finding a company that would come to the house and at first would unhook one at a time to get it filled.

They have even caught on fire and damaged homes. They also interfere with wifi controls; one guy had his ceiling fan going on and off.

I am impressed; my bill seems to run around $54 a month when not running any window AC units (which are only on during the hottest times and only then to cool the bedroom down so I can fall asleep. I used a fan in the office). No electric clothes drier, only the solar drier in the back garden. Are you on a co-op electric service or regular utilities company? Also curious about how you plan on pumping your water without the electric pump? I have a deep well with a submersible pump.

That is correct, any company using a metered device to charge customers can be required to have that device checked. I did that once at a fuel station because I believed their pumps were not accurate. I think it is the Weights and Measures Division, or something along those lines.

I rent my 1000 gal. tank from the same company. To buy a couple of 100 gal. tanks would be $500 then the propane company will charge me a "pump out fee" of $125 to get MY GAS out of their tank! But hold on there's more! After they remove the gas they charge me another $125 to remove their tank. So I'm looking at $750 to dump them, so at $75 a year that's 10 years. I'm now 63 years old and I don't plan to live in this house for more than another 6 or so years. Unless another gas company makes me a great deal I may be stuck paying the fee. I'll just have to make my water a bit hotter to I only get hit with the minimum fee.

I'd tell them to "go pound".

You paid for the gas, so use it up..............all of it. Buy 1 or 2 100lb. tanks and use them instead. 100lb. tanks are the kind welders/fabricators use........they're about 4-4.5ft. tall and 14-15in. in diameter. 100lb. propane tank is about 40 gallons give or take.

Tell the utility company if they want their tank to come and get it; or you have a scrap guy coming for it. No way in Hell I'd be paying for them to come get their tank. That's something that I'd fight over.

Didn't she say surface water fed by gravity?

I know I use more electric stuff than yall but even when my wife wasent home and we Didn't have a kid our power was 2x that with not heat or AC. We had no smart phones, used one tv, like dishwasher once a week no dry cycle a few loads a week in wash n dry for chlothes. One computer. CFLS throughout. What is your price per kwhr?

So far, no "smart" meter here.
We read the meter once a month and the co-op sends out college kids to do a once a year reading to assure things match up.
I like it this way, and if they tried to change the meter so it could be read from the road, I'd seriously wonder about their motivation.

Many places will come to "exchange" the tank when they run out. I'm sure you've seen the trucks driving with all the tanks in the back. That; or haul it to a place that'll fill it for you..............those tanks are heavy once filled though.

I guess my point was they're more than happy to deliver w/o charge......perhaps.
I've heard some horror stories re: propane company practices.

Part of the reason is that devices are more energy efficient today. Refrigerators, freezers, etc uses less energy to do the same job. While I rarely turn on the telly, I still have an old CRT; CRTs were power hungry; today's LCD/LED televisions don't use nearly the energy the old power hungry televisions did.
