What's the best kind of wood for smacking an intruder? I currently have maple and birch in the house.

I would have to hear the sound it made when it hit that guy. If it was a low thud noise I'd say wet and if it was a higher pitch I'd say dry.

Now what sound did the guy make. Hit in face, likely a low sound, hit lower, say just below the belt, a high pitcho_O

I'd say hickory, or beech. Although, elm would work very well too.

If it were inside my house, if use a different "stick" per say. It's short, but loud and works pretty well from distances away from intruders.

I've got a piece of branch wood from a beech, I named it "Lucille", that I have on the ATV. It's a multi use tool. A wheel chock, a hammer, a lever, and a darn good Billy club style weapon. It's the perfect heft and size. Nice and solid. Nobody messes with Lucille.

Hopefully it wasn't black locust. Those black assault pieces of wood are apparently much more lethal.

Or "Black" Birch, or the even more lethal, 4 year seasoned "Black" Oak!

Break into my house and it won't be a stick of wood you get hit with!

I remember many moons ago when I had to be in a certain area of a city from time to time. Someone made me a nice stick; the butt end of a pool stick that was drilled out and filled with lead. Works rather nicely too.
