34 and rain now with possible thunderstorms this afternoon, a week ago we had -40 wind chills, this weather is goofy
After shutting off the pellet stove about three hours ago, I started a fire in the liberty with some cherry. It's 24 out today with the temps dropping into single digits tonight. Tomorrow the temp might get to 42.
34 Couple small pieces of oak and about 15lbs coal. Should be good all day with residual heat from cooking and both girls home doing laundry. 49 tomorrow . Hope it gets rid of some ice!
Its a beautiful day in the Rockies with the sun disappearing behind the mountains a few minutes ago. Its -10c/14f and Im burning my Christmas day wood of apple. Its about a 1/4 load and its all I got so saved it for today.
Here's a few pictures out our window this morning. Also the third one is of our back yard taken a moment ago. I was talking to my nephew in Vancouver just now and he asked me to send him a back yard pic so he could see some snow.
Once the sun went down, it got cool quick. Current temp 12.6° going down to - 4° Just loaded a few splits to establish a coal bed for the night loads later on. Merry Christmas!
Down to about 12 degrees right now. Slight breeze. Ash, Elm mix trying to get things heated back up to temp while there is a heat demand. We went away visiting to both parents house from 1:30-6:30 and my fire went out in the boiler! The gun will be running for a while now.
Hard to like the boiler going out - made the same mistake myself yesterday. Tried to let it get real low so I could burn some coals down, loaded up on a questionable coal bed in the morning with a full batch of pine.. Came home to a 125 water temp and nothing going on! Oops. Rectified quickly and the house only lost a degree of temperature though, so all was well. Packed up with some 2yr old maple and birch this evening.
That's another nice thing about having some storage. Between the boiler's 60 gallons, and the 400 gallon buffer tank, I didn't lose much. It will take a bit to heat both boiler and tank back up while some heat demand from house going on. But all will be good and hot (190) in a few hours.
We have a temp of 16 heading south to single digits, I just put four splits of cherry in the liberty so we would have coals for an overnight fire. I'm not sure if we'll run the pellet stove tonight but it's ready. It's 72 up here and the basement is 70.
Sweet. If we decide to stay here for a while, I'd love to add some storage to this system. I first started really considering it after an event last year that I'm embarrassed about.. Temp over night was forecast to hit deep into the negatives - wound up being the coldest night of the year... and I fell asleep in my damm recliner without filling the stove for the overnight burn... Woke up to 52 degrees in the house and it took all day to get back up over 60 with the steady 40mph winds blowing through our civil war era home. I set an alarm now when I sit down for the evening.
Mid to upper 70's here, was hoping to be burning some red oak today, instead I just lowered the a/c to 68. Too darn hot inside. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
Oh ya. I've done that before as well. Live and learn. Both of us are still watching the oil truck drive buy the house instead of stopping!
