What might seem silly to some has a huge purpose at times for me. I was in the shed this morning and noticed some thing in my wood burning preps was missing. It is over 30 years old and actually belongs to my youngest daughter. It can be a big help how ever during the late winter when just getting some farwood to the house becomes a cumbersome chore.
I've thought of getting one of those for moving firewood to the house, but it's only 13' from the shed to the porch. Prolly a bit superfluous.
I'm impressed a plastic sled lasted for 30 years! I doubt any of the ones available these days would make it more than a season or 2 before cracking.
Now that you mention it, it is kinda hard to believe aint it? Our youngest daughter is 36 years old and she had it when she was 6 or 7.
I use a bent and busted up old snow scoop to pull rounds form the back side of the stacks over to the mouth of the OWB. At the cottage, I use a ice fishing drag sled to haul stuff in and out during the winter months.
Everyone on the Alaskan shows I watch has a sled for moving wood or stuff in winter. Many make them out of those big plastic sheets or use it for runners
I bought a big Otter sled last year for towing behind the snowmobile. It works great for hauling wood to the house as well....
I had a solid plastic sled some 25 years ago that the kids would ride in behind the 4 wheeler. Not sure where it went but it was indestructible. I've bought several plastic sleds the last few years for the grandkids and I'm lucky to get an hour out of them before they shatter.
That ticks me off. I beat the crap out of the plastic sled I had 25 years ago, it made it though 8 or so years of jumps and crashing into trees and hills so steep you couldn't walk up them when it snowed, before I killed it. My little girl breaks a sled in an hour, and she's just going down a gentle slope and not doing any of the stupid stuff I did at that age.
I don't know if it matters. Sleds used to be injection molded and were thick plastic. Now, some of still injection molded, but are thin plastic, and others are thermoformed out of thin plastic. It doesn't matter if its molded in the USA or China, cost savings and using less plastic is what its all about now. It's no different than water bottles, they used to be the same as soda bottles, but now they're essentially a plastic bag.
I have , the size is not the problem , while plastic is slippery , there's too much contact with the snow , I need to make a pair of runners for it .
