on my brother's plan, but it wasn't activated when he dropped it off. He said the saleswoman told him to just turn it on and it would do it.
    Uh....nope.
I've gone through the setup numerous times, and obviously, I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what it is, because this thing will not activate. It's brand new.
Any help before calling the Verizon store?

Did it come with a manual? There should be a setup card or something from Verizon that tells you the step-by-step instructions to get it activated.

Nothing useful in the box. I've been to Verizon site, Apple site, Youtube. All have similar instructions......that haven't worked.
It's gotta' be some small detail I'm overlooking............or something.
Brother's wife had to order hers, because she wanted pink. All they had was 3 black ones. Hers should show up today, so I plan to head over there and we'll give the store a call. Should be up and running in just a few minutes.
Just bugs me that what I'm doing hasn't worked.

Try dialing *228 and hitting send to perform an ota activation.

Did that several times. Tells me "this number is not allowed", and the call fails.

Time to call Verizon. I've found their call support to be less annoying and more helpful than going to the Verizon stores.

It's an 1.5 hour round trip to the store. They'll be getting a call.
It's on my brother's acct., so he'll need to call, then hand the phone to me........he's a technophobe.

You should still be able to call yourself. My brother and sister are on my Verizon account, I almost never need to get involved as they are able take care of it all their-selves.

You usually have to designate them as folks on the account

I never have. I ordered a phone for my sister last month and she was able to call and activate it herself when it arrived in the mail. Back in the summer my brother went to the Verizon Store to get himself a new phone, he did call me while he was there needing the account password, but with that he was able to buy a new phone himself on my plan.

Huh? Things change I guess. Just a few years back it was almost impossible for me to deal with Alltel since I was on my wife's account. She had to hand me the phone till we realized that they could also make me authorized to talk to them

Went to brother's and he gave 'em a call. Took the rep over 10 minutes after I got on the phone. Didn't bother asking what the problem was, but her initial attempts were unsuccessful.
    It's working now....WooHoo

I have had phones sent to me that basically were never programmed or what ever they do so that when you get them all you have to do is dial the number and hit 1 or what ever

I have a feeling the new phone didn't get provisioned (is that the right term?) until today.

I don't think they had put the new phone in the system to replace the old one. Should have been able to just turn on the new one and BAM!.
Didn't work that way. I had to give her IMEI and ICCID numbers and something else make sure things matched up, so they knew what the phone was, but it hadn't been set up yet.
    Heck, I dunno.
