Been very happy with our Fireview for a number of years now. Sure keep eyeing up an IS or Progress for the larger firebox but cannot bend to the goof proof Fairview as of yet.

I think they have become the best seller. Although, last time I was up there, maybe mid October picking up my Absolute Steel, the week-end before the get together (I had to go to Hawaii with the wife) there was a line up of Progress and Fireviews as well, but the IS line-up may have been double the number.

Given the price, performance and all of the neato options and accessories the IS is a real attractive stove for new home owners with a large footprint to heat.

Has me also wondering how many Absolutes are getting sold.

One more thought. Although the percentages may or may not be in line with total stoves Woodstock has sold, you know that there is some much larger number of actual stoves out there. We really are a very small segment of the stove burner population.

The factory is geared up so that they will make the stoves according to orders but when they switch to do, say, Fireview, they will do it for maybe a week or two, then switch to IS or AS or Progress or whatever is needed the most. This is why you will usually see some inventory of all stoves on hand in the factory but I do believe the IS is presently the number one stove there.

Also, we may be a small percentage of their total output of stoves but we have been a significant factor and they are very grateful for this too. I was privy to stand in for one of the meetings at the factory and was granted a few minutes to address the whole gang and don't think for a minute that I did not mention FHC!! They all said they greatly appreciated this forum.

I was wondering the same. Not too much talk about the Absolutes this season which is a shame, I was half tempted to put one in the other side of my house but decided to hold off. I think for most folks looking for a new stove they are just too similar to the IS and not priced much cheaper, might as well go for the IS.

Isn't the absolute a side loader? That probably prevents a decent amount of people from buying it.

Or vice versa. In our case, chosing between the two would have us buying the absolute over the ideal because a side loader works better for us. I've also never been a big fan of large firebox doors but at times they can be handy.

Not a big firebox; just talking about a big firebox door.

Yes, if you have the room, and need the extra capacity then the IS makes sense. I like mine and it's been great down for the long burns I'm getting and I appreciate the extra capacity, but would have still bought it if it was smaller/cheaper as well. For someone with an under 2K sq ft house it's a powerhouse.

I'll say one thing the side loader door of the AS is excellent. It's plenty big enough and has a great handle to positively open and close it. Additionally, it can't be opened if the CAT is still engaged, as the CAT control when engaged, prevents the loading door from being opened.

I wonder if there have been instances of more smoke roll out with the big front loading vs side loaders? I know with the fireview over past other stoves we have had, the design of it allows you to get away with opening the door without much or any smoke roll out at times when you shouldn't open it.

I get more smoke spillage with the IS then the fireview. Not a lot, but definitely more.
I now will carry the wood to the stove and try to load quick and keep the door closed between armloads.

I think the IS gets the smoke rollout because the exit out of the firebox is towards the front. I could be wrong but I thought it drew towards the front and then snaked around back.

When I open the door on my Fv or my AS, I first make sure to disengage the CAT, then secondly I just crack the door for a moment, to let the air draft start to "pull" air in from outside the stove door, then I slowly open it and have no back flow into the room. I really think that couple of seconds of cracking the door slightly before fully opening makes a difference.

On the Fireview we don't have a problem with smoke leakage except for a few rare times when the weather is wrong. It's still a good practice to crack that door slowly.

I talked to them about AS last week when I was ordering my tool set. They said they are selling quite a bit of them, but that the IS is definitely still their top seller.
