Snow is about borderline I want to go through! Still a thick layer of ice underneath, time to cut some Ash. Not going to far from the house. In case I have to get it unstuck!
Probably would never need or want to do it but, Mattracks makes HD all-terrain tracks for tractors, trucks, Hummers, etc. With tracks on that tractor of yours, you probably wouldn't even have to start the saw… you could just tear the trees down…
Forget the tracks....... I would kill for that winch!!! 90% of my cutting is on hills and that thing would make my life so much easier!
I did a test run with some wood in the carry all box today. I filled it about 60% with freshly cut Ash and hauled it out of the woods and up a hill in the snow. It did it without trouble. But boy the snow is deep. And there is a layer of ice down underneath it that makes you feel nervous about weather or not you are going to stick it or not. I hate getting stuck. Some day I will add some chains. And if we get any more snow on top of this, I am not going in until some of it melts! LOFL
Bogy, if you are asking me. Yes. It is. I wanted to upgrade from the old Ford. And I wanted Diesel, 4 wheel drive, power steering, at least 40 horse power at the engine so I would have at least 30 horse at the pto. This one fit the bill without breaking the bank too hard.
Chains would help a lot if you have iced over frozen ground under the snow. Things start slipping & sliding, it gets scary quick.
Nope, not my tractor there. I pulled it from a Google search for "Mattracks on tractors" … you oughta see the rigs they put tracks on. Yep, Mattracks are the Cadilacs in the $$$ department.
I hear that. I have considered chains for past machines but never bought them. Had them for an old Pinzgauer Swiss Army truck I had one time. They made a big difference. Maybe in the future for one of them. Either the Ford or the Bobcat.
Couldn't agree more. A winch sure can come in handy, and definitely on steep hills… if not just for the safety factor. Doesn't that rig shown drop down to the ground too with the 3 point hitch, and really dig in when pulling loads heavier than the tractor?
I have learned over the years that a test run never hurts. When I got out of the woods, up the hill and out of the deep snow, I stopped on the plowed parking area at the camp. I got off the tractor and checked the tires. They all looked good without any load on the tractor. With a 60% load of fresh cut wood in the box the left rear was looking a little soft. So I will put some more air in that before I load it again. I probably have two more full box loads in the woods. I will go after them later this week.
Hey, HEY. Pipe down there on that much snow! LOL I hope you get it if you want that much ZAP. You guys get a foot and we will be happy with 2 inches down here. DEAL?!
I buried my old mans 4x4 46hp kubota trying to grab a round bale a few years back. Snow drifted the bails in, didn't look deep. Till I lifted the bail and sunk 2 more feet. Talk about being helpless. Fork is stuck in the bail so I can't help push myself out. 3 days later and a bigger tractor we had it out.
