I needed to get out and get some exercise so I split up some Lodgepole today. You cannot see it all but I did about a 1/2 cord. Got me out the house and I got to run a saw. I sharped that ax with a stone and it splits that Lodgepole pretty good. Also the practice makes perfect and since I have always done most of my splitting with a hydraulic splitter this is good for me. Ain't getting no younger so use it or lose it..
Well since I keep up with the exercise and I try not to over do it I don't feel to bad. But that is the whole point of it. Now as I get older that might be a different story.
No might about it mag. It is a whole different story! Chapter one starts when you turn 50....just watch for the signs!
Well Dave I am 66 now so I hope to still swing an axe when I am 76 but will just have to wait and see. It sure is good exercise, but I do pace myself.
At that age, you can be giving me advice! Just FYI, my partner at work is 75! Well, usually my partner anyway.
Magcraft, I can say that at 69 it feels about the same as at 66. I still like to get on the end of the handle of my X-27. Not sure how I would feel about being tethered to an 8 pound go devil type though.
I'm 74 and because of an injury can't do much hand splitting any more but did do maybe 15-20 logs not too long ago using a 6 lb maul.
Good on ya, Mag Craft! I'm almost 44 and my left shoulder is so bad anymore, that I'm not sure how long I could swing an axe or maul. I still do it some but nothing like I used to. I fear I'm going to need surgery on that shoulder soon. Doing these tree climbing jobs don't help it any......
No gym memberships needed be hoarders :stacke: CSS'ing with or without hydraulics & burning it is good exercise, I count 14 times +\- that I handle each piece, (last one is ashes to the garden) Working outside in the fresh air, just makes you feel good
Im 44 and find that the older FHC members here give me incentive and inspiration to continue for many years. Respect and hats off to you gents.
