Just saw this sale at HF. If you have been looking for a good infrared thermometer these work very well. At this price you can't go wrong.

Check out its range first. The one I bought only goes to 600.

That is a buy and so is the one bocefus78 quoted.

fwiw, we got one from HF years ago and it has always worked fine for us although we don't use it often. I don't remember how high it goes but an certain it goes well over 600.

I bought the amazon deal myself and I am happy with it. If you guys want to start looking into a slightly more expensive option, but is fun, check these out. FLIR ONE for iOS

Before anyone says it, I realize these are not a full blown IR camera. I use those at work and they are in excess of $2-4K depending on the model and options. I have been researching these a lot as of late to find a few cold air leaks etc. I want the real deal, but its simply to expensive. These are cool Iphone add ons that seem to work for a homeowner level scan.

Just need in addition an automated way to load wood in the stove and control the air. Then it can all be handled from the lazy boy recliner!

My brother got me one of those for Christmas several years ago. After the novelty of reading the temperature of everything within sight wore off, now I just use the laser to play with the cats.

I have one and use it to double check that my magnetic is somewhat correct. Also I have noticed that there is great variances in temperature on certain parts of the stove. Even dependant on each burn, at least my buddies tube stove that I used to use.

    Very handy tools.

I use it to find the hot and less hot spots on the stove top when I cook on it.

Interesting what you'll find in summertime too checking sidewalks, asphalt, even wood deck railings. Good also to find air leaks in the house.
