You even ID'd it yourself! You are getting the hang of this stuff now, aren't ya?
Ash is easy splitting and quick to dry. Its one of my favorites.

Indeed Nicholas you got some wood to split and some very nice wood indeed. That stuff is a joy to split. As for the ID, just learn a few at a time and over they years you'll remember many of them.

I'm all out of wood to split. But, I have a delivery of logs showing up on Friday! I know it's against the scrounger's code, but $125 for the cord delivery works for me! If I'm happy with what I see, then I'll order up another delivery. At 60, I'm still good to CSS, so bring it on.

I'm in the same vote as you been just dying to split wood! I face two obstacles I have tons of Christmas orders in for maple candy's and my " to be split piles " are under 2 feet of snow but that's OK hoping Friday morning I'll have time to get at it.

You do what you have to do. There's no shame in that. Cutting trees down and hauling them or perusing and dealing with Craigslist people is a pita sometimes.

& saves the time / costs ...... of scrounging
Nice to work on it at home, when you want & can

I always try to scrounge enough wood during the summer so that I have wood to split during the winter. I will get the ole cabin fever.

Nice score on the Ash, great wood and one of the few half way decent hard woods around here. Been burning some this winter.

Splitting in the winter can be hit or miss round here, If we get a lot of snow you can't even see your logs or splitter for that matter. Two winters ago when we totaled seven feet of snow for the season, as I brought wood home and threw it onto where the pile of logs should be, it all kept getting buried. In April when the snow melted I didn't realize how much wood I had gotten since Nov.

Good score. Been slim scrounging around here, not that I'm looking! Most tree services are pretty slow right now. Should pick up in a few months.
