bogydave, no reason to crop. I enjoyed the pic. For 35 years I went to deer camp. My Dad's place in Southern IL. Old small farm house in the woods that we fixed up. Dad, me, and my 2 brothers, and then our sons. Then in '94 Dad passed away suddenly, a week before deer season! Deer camp was never the same. After a few years, I just quit deer hunting. I still have all my guns, shoot a lot with my son and grandson, and when they get deer, I am the first one there to help them. But as much as I miss the deer hunt, something was just never the same after that day in '94. I miss it but can't get myself to go again. I sort of lost my stomach for killing things. I think it has a lot to do with all the pain and suffering I have seen in my 35 + years in the fire service.

Anyway, I really enjoyed your picture, before the cropping!
    Steve

Nope, it came with it and has held up all these years. It was one of the original Stoltz Monster Mauls. They are out of business and I think their patent ran out. Everybody makes one now. My son bought one at Rural King.

Maybe it used to have a rubber grip.
It out at moose camp ,
good place for it. If the bears find it, they can't hurt it.

This is mine.Original late '70's patent.Never had the foam or rubber on handle.Present from parental units when I was 17. Wanted a new Corvette or a Mac SP125 instead.:DNever did get a Corvette, but did get my SP125 last year finally.

Loaned it out probably 20 years ago,it was backed over & handle broke at the weld  Was reinforced with 1/4" thick wall galvanized pipe, that fit so snugly over that original collar,I had to drive it on with a 12lb sledge. Added a nice fat weld bead for good measure, even though it wouldn't loosen any while in use.....20 lbs now on accurate bathroom scale,it only gets used 4-5 times yearly, tops. One thing though,it NEVER gotten stuck in any log or stump,no matter how gnarly or twisted. If it wouldn't split,it would just bounce off.Cant say that about my X27/25 or any other axes/regular wedges. The European twisted wedges are a different animal entirely....

Mine has the handle busted clean off, I use it as a wedge, with sledge, I call it the 'blaster'.

You may be right. I vauguely remember there were choices. My handle started to break at the head, but I welded it and never had any more trouble with it. My brother broke his handle off and welded a new 3/4 in handle on. If it wasn't a man killer before that, it sure was after that :axe::eek:

We had a guy at work,
the mechanic said he could break an anvil with a feather.
I guess the word "indestructible" , challenged his manhood. LOL :)

Another deluxe model here. It saw a lot of work for many years but it's been on retirement for 3 years now.

Auh, looks just like mine except no welds on the handle at the head. It really is a nice rubber handle that has held up for many years.

Man, it's snowin', cold, dark, but yeah, I felt shamed, so I went out to the garage and took a couple pics of a tool often used, and never forgotten :D
