I came across this and thought I'd share.

It was in a split that I bought a few years ago. I was moving wood to my deck, and came across it.

As I turned the split and looked at each side, there was NO sign that it was there. Just visible on the split edge.

Would have put the suck into suck, hitting that with a saw.

    Beware the blue wood!!!!

The blue tattoo in wood is always a sign of steel or iron in the log. Problem the blue spreads so you never really know where it is or how big it is. It could be a small nail or as big as a V.W. Bug! But at least it's a warning.

I once found a .58 Cal. mini ball in a tree. Because of the depth and the amount of wood over the ball path we figured around 100 years old, +- a few.

Cool picture. Glad there wasn't a destroyed chain to go with it! I have found rope, chain, a length of garden hose (???), and barbed wire... And a piece of romex in wood. Thankfully not with my saw, except the garden hose... Which gave me pause, but cut easy enough. :)

I've hit quite a few things over the years. Never from "woods" trees. It's always from yard trees, use extra caution around them. I once put on a new chain and hit a spike with the first log I cut, boy did I yell and swear.:hair::hair::hair:

I found a horseshoe, railroad spike, concrete poured in a hollow tree, wire fence, lots of nails in yard trees. Some days it's like Christmas, you never know what your going to unwrap!

Just be happy you weren't using a carefully sharpened, 60", 172DL chain!! :hair: :headbang: Strangely, it wasn't anywhere near that blue stain.
