Identify tree from wood pile?

    Hi, I was offered this firewood pile for free. I live in Western NC. Can anyone identify what kind of tree this is from the bark? Thanks! firewood.jpg

    can you get a close up of the leaves looks like a 5 point leaf if so guess would be soft maple. and welcome to the hoard mdawg5000

    Looks like one of them elusive free trees that everyone talks about! Does look like maple though.

    Yes, I have a feeling it's a silver maple. I went ahead and got it. I'll split one and put a pic up.

    Whatever it is, it looks like a vine growing up it. Around here, that means poison ivy a lot of the time.

    Maple for sure, looks to be hard maple as best I can tell....

    Welcome mdawg5000 , the curl starting to form on the bark makes my guess, hard Maple. Either way, good score. I'd take that all day long. Beware of any of these folks suggesting you send them a sample to test burn, I would never do that.:whistle:
