How do u guys get the small stuff down to size? I just trow it in the "bok" and use the my little chainsaw , and it drops right down the weelbarrol and i just put it on the pile. Have a nice day all!
Same here. And if the lengths are uneven, they only take a half hearted smack with the hatchet across a chopping block to be the right size.
You call them a bok while we call them a sawhorse. Same end results! This sawhorse was made by our one and only Shawn Curry
There's so much dead rotten pine (standing) in that area but it's a job that needs my attention. We need another outside fireplace over there so we can burn.
Its not real small stuff but all standing dead elm we flagged during the "leafy" months and cut and skidded out to this pile and got to cutting it once the ground froze. it was all no split or one split stuff and with a few inches of packed snow under it wasn't to bad to slice up on the ground. This was a few years back and since then my brother (running the saw) has cut himself last September and 18 stitches to be exact and now wears chaps!
There was a time not long ago that i turned almost every twig of a tree into firewood. With sooooo much dead ash on my land and the horse farm next door where I work, I no longer process the small stuff. I just build a big pile and on the Saturday we set the clocks back I host a community bonfire with it. This year was year # 3.
I gained permission to clean this woodlot of topsand deadfalls, 15 acres and 3 to 4 hundred yards from the house.

Here in town pruning trees on property I generally save stuff down to 1 inch or so,at parents acreage its 1.5" roughly.Any Hickory,Mulberry,Black Cherry that small is saved for smoker & weber kettle, everything else is kindling/fire starter. Plus I normally bring home a dozen or so junk pallets/scrap pine/spruce/douglas fir construction lumber from jobsites throughout the year.I go through lots of small stuff & its always welcome.
Yeah, I've got the jackpot. Pics are from my initial trail blazing,,haven't even begun to take off in other directions,,
