Was sitting at work today and about 11am I get a call from my wife. I figured she wanted to chat before heading to work but really she was trying to prevent the stove from running away. We just switched from shoulder season wood/uglies to some American Beech that has been drying for 2 years. I had told her earlier in the morning to be careful and not as many splits would be needed. Needless to say the STT was around 650 and she was worried. Talked her through it and I was mighty proud she kept her cool. Had her open the door all the way for a little bit and close the damper the entire way. Slowly it started to come down. Also reminded her of the ash bucket outside as a reminder of how to quickly tamper it down. Amazing how just a different species of wood can act so different then others. Beech is my favorite wood to burn and unfortunately this is the last I have, guess i need to fix that!!:stacke:
Can get a bit out of hand. Sounds like you both handled it with level thinking. Just another good reason to have a clean chimney. Those hot fires can ignite a dirty chimney and then you really have your hands full.
Great that she kept her cool. I Always run at 650 700 ,no worries till it hits 725 If I'm not over 600 something is wrong
Yeah it can handle it but she was needing to leave for work so best to have it a tad lower. NC30 is a beast
