Raining and we might see 42 degrees. Chunked some hunks of big ugly maple in the Greedy Hungry Beast last nite, it's still throwing heat, all is well.
Sitting at -16 C (3 F) here this morning. On the bright side of things though, my short stack quits being fussy around -8 C, and the stove eats bigger wood so less splitting for me. Just a cup half full kinda guy. Hammer down morning fire pic.
Nice to meet ya MikeInMa, Are you north, south, or west of beantown? What time is it? Why it's Bruin time.
Home from work , 2c out . Cleaned Nellie out fired her up with ash ,now out in a cold foggy garden to chop some 8 inch logs ( small compared to what's on hear I know )
I can see a gradual increase in # of fires lately. It's been a little cooler at night and day too. We're almost through all the short splits of Ash I got from one of my firewood guys (I won't be calling him again), then I'll be into the Maple. With the cooler overnight weather we're about to get, that stuff should be gone sooner than later. Trying real hard to stay away from the Oak until the real cold stuff hits. It was 30 OAT this am, and we might see 40 later. Started a small 5 split fire about 8 am, and it's still 72 IAT. Not sure my wife's noticed yet, but I can tell that putting in the new rear door (finished the storm yesterday) seems to be helping keep the back end of the house a little warmer. Might be the butt dyno effect though.
This was what was going on when I left for work this morning. We did a reload this morning of larch and birch. My temps will start losing ground a bit when we get much colder. -27c expected tomorrow night.
Sounds about the same for us here, bouncing between -20 to -27 C overnight lows over the next 5 days. On a side note, I just went and axed a hole through the closest slough/pond, and there's 6.5" - 6.75" of ice about 15 feet out from the cat tails.
Been out for a meal , came home and my lads been busy splitting . + 2 out an I'm sat in front a roaring fire wi a jd. Probably best thing we have ever bought.
I don't know how I feel about a country that let's you buy children and put them to work... All in good fun of course.
I commuted 270 miles to NM for 4 days of work this morning, I left my wife the keys to the shop with instruction to keep the Fisher wood stove burning 24/7 . I wonder how this will play out.
