Used the 210C to move some log piles out of the way so I can move more of THIS year's firewood in tomorrow.:picard:

Then switched to the bucket and cleaned the snow up. About 4 inches worth.

Next it was time to work on the barn siding again. I got started and a little later my neighbor showed up and we finished the last side over the next four hours. Siding is done.

Now I have to take time to get my firewood in. And then building the barn doors will come next.

Got that same storm here. Went to Lewiston and back around noon. Only problem was on my road. Steep hill, of course no sanding done yet. Didn't think we would make it up the hill, but we did with a lot of slipping and a steady pedal. Looks like I better get some winter treads on. Debating if I want studs on them or not. $40 more. I can get 4 wheels done for around $400 at Sam's Club. They are having a sale with $80 off a set of 4, Goodyear Ultra Grip. I think they should be adequate for me. I usually just go around town and one trip 30 miles to Lewiston once a week.

Just put on studded snow tires on dawn's car. I went with studs, cost $15 bucks extra per tire. $599.00 For 4 new mastercraft glacier II tires and black steel wheels, studded, mounted, and balanced at town fair tire. In littleton, there is a perk if you work there, businesses can get 10%off from each other,.

way more fun than snow shoeing in my opinion. Snow shoeing is OK, but slow and exhausting. Even necessary where you live. Some of the storms you can get, may burry you waist deep. Not much moves in that. That is when you start looking at a tractor with a bucket. only way to deal with big snow with no place to move it to. Once in Minnesota, we had snow that went to the roof line. No fun.

that is a good price when you consider that you got wheels also. However, Town Fair has free change over with their tires so owning wheels is only convenient for you. I am thinking more and more about the studs. This hill we live on can be tricky. I've slid off into a snow bank more than once. I would feel better with a 4wd but the wife won't trade the van. I sold my truck. It was needing a lot and I very seldom drove it.

I'm trying to be as proactive as possible. At least around the house, i can push snow down the hill, keep building it up, keep pushing it back, repeat. If snow went to the roofline, I'd be screwed! Just met the neighbor today, they have the farm down the street, we exchanged the "if you need anything, don't hesitate" so they are older, may need my help, or vice versa, they have big equipment.

I'd say get the studs. The only thing they are not beneficial for is the paved surface when it's dry. Given you live in Maine, get a ton of snow, peace of mind along with safety, you should go for it. I sat in the parking lot the other evening waiting for dawn so we could go food shopping in Lancaster when she was done work. Nearly everyone had studs on their tires. It's what ice climbers use..... it digs into ice.

From what I've read, drive a bit, watch heavy braking, easy turning, and no high speeds, the studs will wear evenly and being tungsten, will outlive the tire itself.

I had one of those days at work where you wonder why they payed you today - it was rather pleasant with the rain drops hitting the roof

X2 tire lasts longer you really only need them a studs a few times a year.. but with the hill your describing you will get there... my drive is 1/4 mile uphill both ways.. an inch or 2 doesn't get blown so it ices up... studs you make it period..

oh I snow blow cause the problem with plowing is once the banks freeze in a truck will not push them back .... blower throws it 40 feet.. and most heavy tracked equipment sucks on ice and hills... ask me how I know small dozer sideways 300 yards down drive:hair::bug:.. scared chitless!

if getting a nor easter keep storm doors shoveled open other wise you are going out a window...

check your washer fluid too stuff at big box store only good to 10 below get good stuff for next few months... oh and thumb tacks in winter boots ice boots work great!

how to live in the north 101....
