Decided to get my keister in gear and finish out the back wall. I think I posted a couple pics before. I pulled the old siding off, and replaced the sheathing and added 1/2" iso board. We added a window on that wall to bring a little more light into the stairway to the basement. Then started with the new siding. Before I started on the upper section of the wall, I decided we would add a transom style window above both the door and window. You can still see most of the tape I used to layout where the window would go. Because it been windy and snowing the each time I started to work in the wall I've only worked on the interior portion. You can see the old sheathing with the sheet rock removed. To get the header in I decided to do half at a time. I cut the studs to allow the installation of the interior side 2x8.. Once I start removing and before replace the exterior sheathing, I will build the other half of the header from the outside. Here is the first 2x8 and new studs to begin creating the window rough opening. If all goes well, I will get to work on the exterior of the house tomorrow.
Humm, can't remember what I did yesterday. I've never been able to nap, but I bet I'll fall asleep early tonight. Couldn't sleep until after 12:30 last night...too excited.
Worked on the exterior wall today . Two layers of siding. Sheathing...got to love the care they put into it. They used whatever they had on hand. Notice they didn't even nail some of the ends to a stud. Old "sheathing" removed. Found more half a$$ insulation that I will have to replace. 3/4" plywood going up before the house wrap and 1/2" poly iso goes on.
The rough opening for the window. Will cut the plywood out and install the window next weekend (crossed fingers) The window just waiting to go in.
Dang, you're all set to go. Cutting that out and bangin' in the window shouldn't take too long. Got an extra set of hands available? You could probably do it alone.
Oh man, ain't that the truth. My plan today was to do the brickmold on the new back door, then install the storm door. HOWEVER, I got a later start than I wanted, and the cuts weren't just simple 45s, so that took longer. Started snowing before I was done, so I finished in the snow, and put my stuff away. Glad i didn't set up the chopsaw near the door. The gooder fight will continue soon, maybe tomorrow.
Yeah...it's pretty light but kind of awkward so I'll draft my bride into helping. Shh, just don't tell her yet.
Nothing yet. Weather moved in, so I packed in the insulation temporarily. Hopefully we'll get some weather in the 30s so I can finish the sheathing, put the poly iso up and cut out for the window. Cross your fingers
