I thought I would show some of my recent saws I got for free. I have them both running and so far I am impressed with both of them.
The Jonsered 801 is 80cc and I used it the other day to fall a pretty good size elm in a lady's back yard. The other saw is a Homelite and is 41cc. It came stock with 3/8ths chain which is unusual for such a small saw but I have to admit it does pretty good.
I went halves on a truck load of Tamarack this summer. I figure I have about 14 cords now, a mix of Tamarack, Pinion and Oak. That's way more than I'll burn in 4 years.
Nice! I have cut a lot of wood with a homelite like the one in the bottom picture! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
That's a pretty sweet pair! I'm pretty fond of the little Homelite Super EZs. Your color scheme is my favorite next to the old blue EZs. White recoil covers with black air filter covers look pretty sweet too. Those units are known for being especially snotty (and loud!) for only 41cc.
I have about 4 or 5 different Homelites around here that I have never done anything with and when I quit my part time work I decided to start getting them going. I have a 901 that I am working on right now. I am just working on getting some parts together for it. That little Homelite EZ is very impressive for its size and if I had known I probably would have got it running a lot earlier.
Yes I like some of the oldies also and have a few. I am always amazed at how good these old saws run and the power they produced. Especially the reed valve saws. I tached that Jonsered 801 at 12,200 RPM's and with the torque it has it really chews up the wood. I am sitting at about 6000 ft and I did a compression test on that 801 and got 170 PSI. That would probably be close to 190 PSI at sea level. It just maintains those RPM's better in the cut.
