I saw the radar this morning and wondered how you NH folks were doing. Tough time of year with pink on the radar.

I wondered what the pink was bogieb was talking about. Not raining this morning with blue sky peeking through. Got my Christmas Cakes made yesterday. If I get time, I might try shortbread this morning. Not as exciting a game last night as Sunday's CFL Grey Cup.

Tomorrow I find out how the foot is doing and how much more I can attempt. Got half done on my third pair of socks. Football is great for knitting socks. Also finished a knit poncho for my granddaughter.

Woodwidow, I probably ask every year about the Christmas cakes, what type are they?

I'll be making the birch log Buche de Noel for my wife's birthday party this weekend.

Yummy. I will have to try making one soon. Christmas cakes are English style Fruitcakes. There are many, many jokes about them as they aren't that popular but I have family who do like them. I make five yesterday. Right now I have two batches of shortbread baking in the oven.

Fruitcakes need to be made at least a month ahead of time so they "ripen" or "mature" before being eaten.

When you decorate the log, do you use meringue mushrooms or marzipan?

Mountain caught on fire sometime early yesterday morning, had a convoy of Forest Service trucks and roll backs with dozers headed up as I was leaving for work.
I could barely see getting home last night and jumped the roadblock as my driveway is ~1/4mi from where they typically barricade.
Fortunately we got ~2.5" rain last night, Gatlinburg doesn't appear to have fared as well - prayers for those folks

Not really scary. They control burn here all the time which mitigates the risk in these conditions.
Yesterday was a perfect "storm" hasn't rained since mid September and we had high winds with the approaching front - steady 20-30mph winds gusting over 40-50
All it takes is an inadvertent cigarette butt to light off 100's if not 1000's of acres and there is no way you're controlling a fire in those wind conditions

About to see a ballet called The Nutcracker by a professional Russian ballet group. They organized this with the Ogdensburg Command Performace group and the two Dance Studios for young local dancers. They held auditions for parts in the play and had a lot of girls from both Studios try out for it. They picked a small portion of them, and it included both of our daughters. :) Quite an honor for a 12 and 9 year old. They are very excited. Very proud parents here.

Good for you two and please pass on my congratulations for the both of them!!!

An honor like this doesn't come easily and should not be looked at lightly. They must be dedicated (with your help) and probably have given up much free time to pursue their dancing!

I was wondering why they'd have a ~10 yr old song being performed on the tonight show?

It's a decent song, I'm just not finding the relevance at this time.

End of the day...Shiner Bock in the stein, meat lover Pizza on the plate and a new fire in the stove, as the snow falls outside.

Yes, a bit colder and there would have been a ton of snow. We got well over an inch of rain.

Next week could be a different story as a storm shows to be headed our way. Where exactly it tracks and whether it's snow or rain are the variables.

The ice was absolutely horrible this morning! :hair:

Radar showed sleet, it was all rain, freezing rain. Everyone was caught off guard. My son had school, and made it ok, but the school had a mandatory bus shutdown, stop where you are off to the side of the road, somewhere safe, keep the heat on and just sit until the roads get treated and it was safe to travel. One bus stopped and waited at grandma's kitchen parking lot for quite a while, and the restaurant with small town love, made and served hot chocolate to all the kids on the bus!

There were alot of wrecks, and being a small town, found out we lost a store owner this morning in a traffic accident. Prayers for the family....

With somehow less syllables than the written words are supposed to have.

    I miss Maine and Nahamsha.

I get an extra week of vacation in 2017. Maybe I'll be able to get down East again sooner than I thought?

Hopefully the rain doused the fire. Tennessee has some horrible fires right now too! Everyone be safe!

Well Seasoned, it is just beyond me with weather radar and reports that they would not delay school. We get weather and traffic alerts for Southern NH and that system was reported last night that there would be hazardous driving this am. Watching the weather today at 4:30 am, the map did not look good in NH.
