Couple more pics...first one is looking back at the entrance drive and shows one of the three power poles (have one near where the cabin will sit, and one final one is where my workshop will be)...second one shows my neighbors' house and his spring fed pond...third one is looking up the hill (opposite from 1st pic) and the land extends quite a ways back past the old (burned down) cabin...last one is actually about halfway to the land and is a pull off with a tremendous view, and the pic doesn't do justice to the colors. It is getting REAL!
Last few pics for a while...couple shots from the road. Everything on the left side to the top of the little hill in pic 2. Beyond that is another plot of land about 15 acres...and behind me is 40 acres of undeveloped woods (that I've been told that I can hunt on!).
Quick update...went up to the land Thurs, and worked on fixing up the inside of the camper. Need to fix some of the floor, water damage, and am going back up this week to meet with my septic/grading guy to map out things. Will first build a workshop (20' X 20'), as I found out it would cost almost $500 to deliver a shipping container I was going to use. Need to have this to keep power tools and my table saw, etc. Also going to get the power company to start connecting me to a temporary pole. Ordered a generator through HD, a Westinghouse 5500 watt, which is more than I wanted to spend, but was convinced by the 3 year warranty (2 years longer than everyone else). Will post more pics next time!
One thing on building. I have built two pole buildings (had them built I should say) Once you get to that size, you might price out a little larger and find the incremental cost will less than you might think. Always seem like people wish their building was a little bigger Second, if you are building new, having an over hang on one side provides an awesome wood lean to with three sides for air, and I think is cheaper as part of a pile barn than stand alone. I love mine when the rain and snow come Best of luck, enjoy the journey
I agree about wanting it bigger...but have to save money for the cabin! The plan has been to add an 8-10 ft overhang on at least 1 side for storage of firewood and machinery. I am at about 1500ft altitude, and believe it or not we will get snow, but unlike up north it is unusual for it to stay longer than 2-3 days. BTW...found a downed log that turned out to be oak-no bark and solid all through- and about 24" diam X about 10' long! Can't wait to CS&S !
Ok...know it's been awhile since I posted...but making progress. Grading is finally done, and septic at the same time. First is one I knew you'd get a kick out of...a local company that makes fence posts...literally thousands of +/- 6" X 8ft long poles (too bad they are pine!) Next two are the septic and last is the shed being laid out.
Couple more...put in a farm gate...couple of the temp pole (it was fun wrestling a 16' 6X6 into the 3' deep hole!)...and the last shows how foggy it was on the mountain on Tuesday.
Thanks for all the likes and comments...can't wait to live up there full time. Going up Wednesday to start framing the shed, and will try to be better at posting progress pics!
