Bout time....we're getting tired of hearing "loaded the stove with cherry, loaded the stove with cherry" blah, blah, blah.....
Just lit a fire about an hour ago, will load in some ash for overnight then let it go cold maybe until Wed. supposed to be 55º on Tues. and 63º on Wed. always gets like summer during gun season.
Wind is picking up here, close to 20mph. Mon and Tue will be in the low 40's and then its back to the 30's for highs. Old man winter must be sleeping late or something.
East and west it doesnt look like ice fishing is happening anywhere yet... Its been mild out in the southern Canadian Rockies but Im almost able to limp along with some 24/7 burns but then I throw in the towel and let it go cold. Weve had weird weather here. Some of our coldest lows so far were last month. Im seeing in the forecast the weather is supposed to start cooling off with steady highs below freezing. I guess Ive saved on firewood which is nice but now Im itching to go ice fishing. I have a client in from England who wants to go out and do some trout fishing so since hard water is out I think we will bundle up and put the boat in a lake again for the last time this season. Oh yeah Im burning larch and birch as an overnighter. Temps are -1c.
I still haven't gotten through my first trailer load of wood yet. Usually I'll have burned at least 3 by the time December rolls around. I'm still burning all the uglies and shorties I skimmed off the top of the stacks - mostly hedge and BL.
Weather has been extremely nice for November here in Saskatchewan. It's a strange feeling with our quasi winter that October was, and here's the end of November with better weather than average start of month temps. We've been bouncing between -7 and +1 C for a bit (or no worse than 20, no better than 34? F). Loving it. I think winter is rolling in around Dec. 4th. All the uglies that I thought would be burnt by the start of Nov are finally finished, and I'm into the wood shed stacks now, but barely. Poplar, same as always.
It's 60 here today. The next 7 to 10 days will be highs in the upper 50s and low 60s with the lows between 34-39. You would think I was living in the arctic with the way everyone is dressing around here! This weather is fantastic and will last for another 3-4 months. Then stay in the 70s and 80s for another 3-4 months. Then it goes back to 110 degree highs for three-ish months.
I knew that, glad you have an abundance of cherry, it's just perfect for the temps you have been having.
Currently sitting at 19°F headed down to 15°F. I put in a full load of birch, sugar maple, big chunks of something, I'll need an id...... when i remember to snap a pic.
Now therein lies the challenge! To i.d. wood species from a pile of ashes!! You're a sly one, you are!
