Thank you. It does feel good! Always had woodstoves but never a fireplace. Hopefully we will get a real heater hooked up in the basement for next season... Gives me more time to hoard!
Speaking from the perspective of a guy that went to an epa insert from the open FP just last December, you'll need to hoatd extra as all of the wood seems to just get sucked right out of the chimney. Poof! While any fire is nice, when it gets cold you'll miss the stove and want one again sooner.
I hear ya! Light the puppy and it's gone. Been wanting something for the basement since we moved in. Already have 6 inch class A installed just need to figure out what we want. Initally, was thinking about a free stander but several folks on here thought we would have some issues getting enough heat upstairs. We have been leaning towards an indoor furnace. Just have to hoard some cash.
what design is your house? I got a multi level with raised ranch type stairs in middle stove room gets warm but 74 in rest of house
We have a ranch with a full basement. The class A in the basement is in the same area as the upstairs fireplace. Stairs and master on one side with the other bedrooms on the other. We have a short run to connect to the HVAC.
OK I can see how it would be hard to get heat to bedroom 3 and 4 especially... as wonderful as woodstoves are they are a direct heater.. meaning they heat air that directly touches them and distribution of that heat.. is a challenge.. so you are considering a furnace? wood or pellet? wondering to get you some guys with experience in this if this is in wrong area.. maybe pellet or boiler section..
Thinking about a wood furnace. I will probably open a new thread about this after the holidays. Thanks for your input.
