You tend to be more focused on heating your home. I know I do.

I had looked at the weather forecast and knew colder weather was coming in Saturday and Sunday. Winds up to 60mph with freezing temperatures. So yesterday I brought up enough wood to completely fill the racks inside the house (purchased another rack to replace the one I gave away) so I have one rack 4' x 4' full of hardwood, and the other 4' x 4' full of Pine. Then I topped off the racks I have on the porch, One 14' x 4' and one 10' by 4' with a little extra on top of each. Even brought in a couple of 5 gallon buckets of kindling which is mostly Norway Spruce.

When all was said and done, I was able to kick back and relax with the knowledge that I will be toasty warm for the weekend, and well beyond.

It will be warming back into the 50's next week with near freezing temperatures overnight. But wait, Next week Sunday, the 27th there is snow forecast. They're saying less than an inch though! :( (I want at least 18 inches or more so I can use my new to me snow blower :))

Propane tanks are full up, and the garage has several tons of pellets ready for us.

Usually starts in late summer/early fall. I get the itch to load the shed, because I know it'll take me a while.

Called in a big buck tonight. He stopped broadside at 50 yards with his front quarter behind a tree. I raised my gun and had him all lined up...just needed to take 2 steps forward. He ended up heading away from me.

bocefus78 they are chasing quite a bit now. I used a single bleat and this guy was on a rope to me. I think he didn't see a doe where he thought there should be one and got spooked.

Getting ready ahead of time is really nothing but good planning. I always am reminded of this when some day it is cold and snowing and blowing and I see folks out there cutting their firewood and you don't see but a small pile of it near the house or OWB. I know one family who regularly gets caught and a big snow is coming and they are out of wood. You know after the big snow it will get much colder and then going through the snow is much harder because that stuff settles and gets hard quite fast after a snowfall.

It really pains me to see folks having so-called fun all summer long plus the spring and fall and most of the winter, then get caught with no wood when it is needed. Hate to burn that wood right away too...

Winter is a wicked time. Big old trees expose their trunks and little bitty plants stand around stalk naked.

Well, I didn't! :emb: I thought it was just some made up word, but decided to look it up anyway. Sometimes I'll look up words to see if I'm using them appropriately, or spelled them correctly. This one kind of fell in both categories. :hair:
