Congratulations to my good buddy Craig on a great Pennsylvania black bear he shot yesterday! This bear was harvested 7 miles from my home. Hunting bear in PA isn't easy, no bait or lures are used. It's just old fashion hard work in the mountains. The bear weighed in at 415 live weight, so I'm told at the moment. I hunted bear with this crew for MANY years, I know the hard work they put in driving and posting the steep, laurel and rhododendron-packed terrain we hunt. It looks like he shot it with a Winchester 88-a true Pennsylvania Classic! There was 4-5 of them in my father's hunting gang back in the 60s and 70s.

I was gonna third the question on dogs. saw my answer. They still con hunt bear with dogs here. There is a 2 week season 1 still hunt one with dogs. I think there is 3 counties you can legally bear hunt here. There is 2 populations of bears here, the coastal ones and moutain ones. Only the mouthing population is huntable.
